VSSS Starts This Week – Very Exciting!

Good luck to our Victorian State Schools Spectacular (VSSS) students who will participate in their rehearsal days on Thursday and Friday, with two performances on Saturday. It’s a fabulous experience and one that will stay with them for a lifetime. This year’s theme is On Air

Students from across the state are working together and soaring to new heights with On Air — where dreams take flight, friendships shine, and every young voice is heard.

An iconic event on the calendar for 30 years, the Spectacular is a breathtaking and heartwarming blend of song, dance and circus — all staged with spectacular lights, costumes and a 75-piece orchestra.

From pop anthems to powerful ballads, gravity-defying aerial acrobatics to heart-pounding routines, On Air will lift your spirits and leave you awestruck.

I would like to recognise and thank Ms Rachel Crofts who has trained our VSSS 2025 performers over many lunchtimes this term.  She has organised costumes, rehearsal arrangements, and planned for the three action-packed days in the city. The kids are very competent at their dances, and now they are about to learn the production side of the show, and how it all comes together to make this event the spectacular that it is each and every year.

Nicole Rheumer, Alison Lancashire, Mel Murphy and Sue Hartley will also be attending the rehearsals and performances to support the group. Thank you one and all for your time and efforts.

Staff Learning This Term

Nicole Rheumer and Jordyn Whittington have been completing a Leading Literacy course at the Victorian Academy this year, and Tuesday was the last day.

The course brings lots of learning about the new approach to Literacy, and a large amount of extra work in professional readings, completing a project and, on Tuesday, they presented to their peers about their learning and projects they have completed for the course, which also took significant preparation.

Thank you both for your work and dedication in this space. You have both already made significant changes to our literacy practices at SPS, which is improving our student outcomes, and introducing the new practices and terminology to us all! We are looking forward to finalising the work in Term 4 at our upcoming Curriculum Days.

R U OK?

Today we have recognised R U Ok? Day as a staff. In any workplace there are good days and bad, and ours is no different. We are a small and close staff at SPS and, for most of the time, we have common goals and outlooks. It is appropriate for us all to check-in with each other and, in recognising the day, it reminds all of us of the importance of the message. Life is often busy, and we are good at soldiering on.

Below are the four steps to a check-in conversation. We hope you can check-in with someone as well to see if they’re ok!

Chickens

Our Year 3/4 staff and students have been fantastic chicken parents this term. They have successfully raised a new batch of chickens for our chicken coop, and the little ones had their first night in their new home on Monday night.

The eggs, and then chicks, have been living in the Year 3/4 Collaborative Space since their arrival earlier this term.  With the building works going on, and the Collaborative Space turning into a day-to-day classroom, the chicks were starting to fledge from their pen so, on Monday, they moved into the SPS coop.

Congratulations to the Year 3/4 staff and kids for so lovingly looking after the little ones as they hatched and grew up. The eggs came to us during a cold burst of weather in the winter, so lots of things had to be altered to make sure they were warm and secure, including staff popping in over the weekend to ensure they were ok. We are glad to have some chickens back in our coop. They will be much loved, we are sure.

Footy Colours Day

On Thursday 18th September, Scoresby PS will be having a Footy Colours Day. This will coincide with the PFA Special Footy Lunch.

While we are calling it "Footy Colours Day" students may wear the colours of any sport team they support or participate in - AFL, NRL, A-League, Basketball, Netball, or other sport of their choice.

There is no gold coin donation required for this event; it is a fun way to celebrate the end of term and get everyone into the spirit of AFL finals season. We hope everyone will join in the fun of this day.

Mandatory Hats During Term 4

All students are required to wear SPS hats in the playground during Term 4.  Hats are available from our uniform supplier, PSW, in Glen Waverley. We also hold limited stock at school; please see the office if you need to purchase one.

In addition to hats, if parents wish their child to have sunscreen, this can be applied at home in the morning and re-applied, if necessary, during break times. Students need to bring their own sunscreen to apply. The school uniform has a sunscreen rating, and the broad-brimmed hat offers extra protection from the sun as well. Please see our SunSmart Policy on our school website for further information.
