Wellbeing: Worrying: I can't control

When I was a kid, I worried—a lot.

I’d lie awake wondering if people liked me or imagining all the things that might go wrong in the future.

Looking back, most of those worries were things I couldn’t control anyway.

And that’s the tough part about worrying—it makes you feel powerless.

That’s why I’ve made it a point to teach my children something I wish I had learned earlier: the circle of control.

It’s a simple skill that helps kids build confidence and handle stress.

If something’s outside their circle of control, we remind ourselves that worrying won’t help.

But if it’s inside the circle, we can take action—whether that’s sharing what’s on our minds, being kind to ourselves, or choosing how we respond.

Another helpful tool is this week's printable: My Circle of Control Worry poster.

It’s a reminder kids can look at whenever they feel overwhelmed.

You can hang it in a bedroom, classroom, or anywhere they need a little encouragement.

Attendance rates for Term 3

Research has shown there is a direct correlation between attendance and student achievement. High performing schools have attendance rates around 97-98%. I encourage all parents/carers to ensure their son/daughter is at school on time each day of the school term, unless they are too ill to attend. Applications for leave longer than 5 days need to be made at least two weeks in advance to Mrs Novak.
