What's On In 5/6

District Athletics
On Tuesday 19th August a group of Whitehorse Primary students from years 3-6 competed in the Nunawading District Athletics Carnival. The sun was shining and spirits were high at Bill Stewart Reserve as students competed in track and field events across the day. We were proud to see the sportsmanship, encouragement and effort that students displayed both when competing and when cheering on their peers.
Book Week
Our creative senior students did not disappoint at the WPS Book Week parade! We enjoyed celebrating our love of reading by dressing as book characters from current or childhood favourites.
Canberra Camp
An amazing adventure was had at Canberra Camp last week! Here are just a few highlights:
The Australian Institute of Sport was a highlight for many of the 5/6 students who participated in Camp Canberra. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the aroma of coffee coming from the Cáfe. Our tour guide, Julian, led us from room to room, each one more interesting and entertaining as the last. We saw a World Ranked number 12 Australian Gymnast in training which was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We also met Shannan Davey, an Australian Boxer, who some kids got the opportunity to speak with. On behalf of Whitehorse Primary we would like to thank the Australian Institute of Sport for an unforgettable experience.

On the 25th of August the grade 5/6s went to Canberra Camp. We all stayed at Bush Capital Lodge. The staff were so kind and helpful. One of the first stops we went to was The Australian Royal Mint. There was an amazing collage of coins stuck on the wall. We watched coins being made and there was a museum with coins from across different years with different designs. Canberra camp was one of the most memorable camps we’ve ever experienced!

When I went to Questacon, I knew I was in for a lot of fun. We went through seven rooms of wonder, each different from the rest. I have to say my favourite room was the EXCITE room. First, there was a free falling slide, where you would hold on to the bar, release after 3 seconds, and zoom down. As you fell, it seemed as if you were falling to earth. There was a ball speed test to test how fast you can throw a ball, and a high jump machine where you can check how high you jumped on earth and on different planets. Whitehorse Primary School would like to give a special thanks to Questacon for letting us have multiple unforgettable memories.
