What's On In 1/2

Literacy:

This fortnight, our budding authors have been hard at work developing their narrative writing skills! We've been learning how to generate our own creative ideas and plan our stories using a story arc, with a special focus on building rising tension to keep our readers engaged. Students have put these skills into practice by crafting their own exciting narratives titled "Lost". We’ve been so impressed by the imagination, detail, and effort shown in their storylines. Our classrooms are full of future storytellers! In the coming weeks we are looking forward to exploring procedural writing structures with some hands-on experiences!

Numeracy:

In Mathematics, students have been exploring the concept of Mass. Our Grade 1 learners have enjoyed using pan scales to compare and investigate the weight of different classroom objects through hands-on activities. Meanwhile, our Grade 2 students have been building on this by using formal units of measurement to weigh items with accuracy and precision. We've also been diving into division through the lens of sharing and equal groups, helping students make meaningful connections between multiplication and division. It's been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they tackle these important mathematical concepts!

Integrated Studies:

In our Integrated Studies unit on History, students have been exploring how life has changed over time by comparing their own experiences with those of the past. We've looked closely at differences in school life, technology, and home life, sparking lots of thoughtful discussion and curiosity. One of the highlights was getting hands-on with some "blast from the past" items- including cassette tapes, VHS tapes, old cameras, flip phones, and even classic alarm clocks! Students had an absolute ball investigating how these objects worked and comparing them to the modern technology they use today. It’s been a fun and engaging way to develop their understanding of the past and how it shapes our present.
