What's On In Foundation

Community Helpers
Our Foundation classrooms have been bustling with so many Community Helpers over the last couple of weeks!
We have had two exciting visits from the firefighters from Nunawading Fire Station. We were so proud of the children when they asked and answered questions in such a respectful way. Children loved getting down on the floor to practise ‘get down low and go, go go’. We learnt that you need to get low to breathe cleaner air because the smoke rises to the ceiling. We also practised ‘stop, drop and roll’ which helps us to put out any flames on our clothes. The fire truck was an absolute highlight! Students climbed into the cabin, checked out the equipment in the side lockers and felt the force of the hose as they watered the trees!
Ben Quin, a Whitehorse Dad and Paramedic, came along to share his important role as a Community Helper. Ben spoke about what a Paramedic does and the different ways that Paramedics can travel, such as on a helicopter and a bike. Children even had their blood pressure taken and were shown how to apply a bandage!
Our last Community Helper was Elaine, who is a crossing supervisor. She brought along her equipment that is needed to help children cross the road safely before and after school. We then went outside to look carefully at our school crossing. We saw the line that we had to stand behind to be safe from the traffic and watched as she carefully put the crossing flags into their posts to warn the cars.
Thank you so much to Ben and Elaine for sharing their time and occupations with the Foundation students!
Book Parade
Book Week is always such a fun and fabulous time at school. Our book parade was jam packed with so many characters. Our classrooms welcomed the Cat in the Hat, Willy Wonka, Gerald the Giraffe and Mufasa to name but a few! Thank you to the students and parents who made the costumes and certainly made our favourite book characters come to life! Happy reading 😀
