Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s great to be back this week at Whitehorse after spending a lovely few days in Canberra with our Grade 5/6 students as they spent time exploring many of our national places of significance (War Memorial, Parliament House, Museum of Australian Democracy, Royal Australian Mint, High Court and National Gallery of Australia). The students not only represented our school proudly but were also commended for their respect, behaviour and willingness to learn new things. We were also lucky to spend time with our local member Matt Gregg who was generous with his time and answering lots of questions from our students and staff. Thank you to Miss Deng, Mrs Hume, Miss Tia, Mr Cahill, Mrs Adams and our helpers Natasha, Sophie and Jenny for giving up their time to provide such a wonderful opportunity for our students.

Jiangsu International Education Visit

Last Monday our school was selected by International Division to host a delegate of education visitors from Jiangsu throughout the day. This was a wonderful experience for our school to share what makes our school so great. The visitors spent time in our classrooms observing Mathematics, Reading, Phonics and Spelling as well as our Specialist program. Thank you to Mrs Goldenberg, Mrs Hudson and Mrs Terrenzani for their support and presentations on the day and also Alice and Daphne for support with interpreting on the day.

Invitation to participate in the 2025 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey

A reminder to parents that  our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey and is seeking your feedback. The survey, offered by the Department of Education, is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement.

Your opinions are important to us and will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. The department will use the results from the survey for research purposes and to improve outcomes for students.

The survey is conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete. It can be completed on any internet enabled device (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and is compatible with most browsers.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 18 August to Friday 19 September 2025.

Families can find the link to access the survey via Compass.

Father's Day

Don't forget that our Whitehorse Family Network have organised a stall for the students to make purchases for Father's Day. This will happen on Friday 5 September. As the grade 5/6 students will be at sport on this day, special arrangements have been made for them to visit the stall on Thursday.

I wish all the Dads, Uncles and Granddads a great day on Sunday.

Kind regards,

Andrew Den Elzen
