Junior School Update

Years 7 - 9

Year 7 Update,

Tiegan Whitby, Sophie Balfour and Keeley Aglinskas

Our Year 7 students have been going so well this term, we cannot believe that we are almost at the end of their year 7 journey! Many have taken part in maths competitions, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and persistence; Winners will be announced at our Best and Carest celebration assembly on Friday. It has been wonderful to see them working so well in line with our CARE values, showing respect and engagement and achievement both inside and outside the classroom.

On Tuesday, our Year 7s headed out to sport, with some even representing WPSC in older year levels, a fantastic achievement and a true reflection of their effort and talent.

In addition, our CARE Captains have been stepping up as leaders, assisting with the Grade 5 Discovery Day. Their support and enthusiasm made the day a great success for our future students. We are very proud of the way Year 7 have been embracing opportunities and representing our school.

Year 8 Update

Jade Kairys, Tim Bunawan and Jaydn Mcgruddy

Although it was a short term, it was still action packed for our Year 8s.

Throughout ICARE, our Year 8s explored and strengthened their real-life skills on how to create a resume, look for their first jobs, and prepare for job interviews. In STEM, students experimented with the water cycle where they created their very own clouds in a beaker. And making its debut comeback, our Year 8s began their acting careers with the return of Drama as a formal elective running alongside music.

Speaking of Drama, a round of applause for our Year 8s Maddie Forecast, Blayke Rickeard, Mitchell Kingdon and Savannah Stephens, who performed and/or helped in our Western Port Production of ‘The Snow’, our first performance since pre-Covid. It was a fantastic show, and the students received tremendous amounts of positive feedback and reviews. Joining them in our next production ‘The Suitcase Series’ performing at the Malthouse Theatre will be Kiora Hawthorne and Olivia Edwards. Get your tickets early, as it’s bound to be a sell-out after seeing our student’s electrifying first performance.

Our YES Program students took part in the Swinburne Global Design Challenge, a program designed to enhance their critical and creative thinking skills, and global competencies through the lens of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Swimming extraordinaire Daniel Collins proudly represented Team Victoria at the School Sport Australia 2025 Games at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre. Daniel competed in 5 individual events and 2 relays with some fantastic results before swimming back to Victoria to show off his bronze medal for the 4x50m Freestyle Relay.

The annual August Art Attack Exhibition held by Crib Point Community House proudly displayed the artworks of Mary Leorag, Summer Farrell and Isabel Mason. This annual exhibition celebrates artworks from all ages across the Mornington Peninsula, recognising the creativity and talent of our up-and-coming artists. Congratulations to Mary, who received a ‘Secondary School Special Mention’ as voted by the community for her artwork ‘Bird of Paradise’.

Student of the Week continued throughout term 3, where each week a year 8 student was nominated by their teachers for displaying academic success, respect to all, and enthused engagement in their classwork. In addition, this student received a ‘gold star’ for their Home Group, and any Home Group that receives 5 Gold Stars wins a class lunch and party! A big congratulations this term to James Tapfer, Brandon Reardon, Max Hansen, Brodie Porter, Mehar Kahlon, Harper Perry, Krystal Clark and Savannah Stephens. An even bigger congratulations to 8E and 8F who have now received 5 Gold Stars and celebrated with hot chips and plenty of pizza!

To finish off the term, we celebrated as a cohort with our Term 3 Best and CARE’st Assembly to award numerous students who have continuously demonstrated our Western Port CARE Values and have gone above and beyond with their studies. A HUGE congratulations to Harper Perry, Juliette Plunkett and Kiora Hawthorne who received the highest number of Best and CARE’st votes from our staff. They walked away with big smiles, a certificate and a gift card to treat themselves for all their hard work.

We can’t believe we are already going into our final term with such an amazing cohort of students. We can’t wait to see how they finish the year!

Year 9 Term 3 Excursion: Exploring Future Pathways in Melbourne

This term, Year 9 ICARE was focused on careers and pathways, giving students the chance to learn more about themselves and future opportunities and the different directions they may take after school. As part of this focus, students embarked on an exciting excursion to Melbourne, where they visited three tertiary and TAFE institutions. The day was designed to broaden their understanding of potential career pathways and inspire them with hands-on learning experiences across a range of industries.

The first stop was the William Angliss Institute, where students were immersed in the world of hospitality and tourism. Highlights included watching bakers and chefs in action, observing chocolate-making demonstrations, and exploring state-of-the-art kitchens. The group also toured aviation training facilities, complete with a mock plane, and gained insight into hotel management through viewing classrooms and fully equipped hotel suites.

Next, the students visited the Academy of Interactive Technology (AIT). Here, they discovered the creativity and technical skills behind computer animation, programming, and filmmaking. Staff shared insights into the industry, and students were able to see how technology and storytelling come together to create interactive media.

The final stop was the Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE), a specialist institute for game design, film production, and visual effects. Students were shown a range of impressive student projects and past graduates’ work, giving them a clear sense of the exciting opportunities in this growing industry.

The excursion was both educational and inspiring, giving Year 9 students a valuable glimpse into future study and career options. From culinary arts to interactive media, the day showcased the wide range of pathways available beyond secondary school, leaving students motivated to think about where their own interests and talents might take them.
