Explore the Learning in Prep
It was wonderful to see the Preps dressed up as elderly folk to celebrate their very special milestone of '150 Days of Prep.' A big thank you to all of the parents who attended our Prep Parade and helped with the games and photography, and to Mrs. Naj who made the phenomenal '150 Frame' that the Preps each got their photo taken in. It was a very fun day!
In English, the students have begun a new Core Knowledge unit, 'Farms,' where they are learning about the different animals you find on a farm and why they are valuable to our society. This term, the students are also learning about writing a narrative and each week will focus on a different component of a narrative.

In Phonics, the Preps will continue to consolidate their knowledge of the digraphs: 'ch,' sh' and 'ng.' They will continue to learn about morphology, through the explicit teaching of base words and the suffixes 'ed' and 'plural s.' They will also learn the new high frequency words: 'people, put, could, house, too, by, day'. Your child's classroom teacher will be

working with them on the high frequency words that they have learnt so far this year (55 words, up to Set 10) and a sheet with these words has been sent home in your child's home-reading folder. Words that your child can read correctly will be highlighted, so that you can see which words they are continuing to work on.

Students will be learning about sharing groups equally with no remainders, using number bonds to solve addition facts and patterns with repeating elements.
During Creative Connections we have been building on the students' knowledge of Farms from our Core Knowledge unit, and the students have been playing with toy farm animals, creating infographics about Pigs and Cattle, constructing maps of a farm and making their own sheep.
