Congratulations – Sacrament of Confirmation
We congratulate Audrey & Owen VG who both received the Sacrament Confirmation at St. Jude Church on Sunday 31 August. We ask that you keep them in your prayers as they grow in faith and live out the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We thank Fr Jerald for celebrating this special Sacrament with our children.
The Church Welcomes a New Saint – Carlo Acutis
The Catholic Church has joyfully celebrated the canonisation of Saint Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint. Pope Leo XIV declared him a saint on Sunday, 7 September 2025, at a Mass in St Peter’s Square attended by tens of thousands of people, including many young families.
Carlo was born in London in 1991 and grew up in Milan. Like many young people, he loved soccer, computer games, and even Pokémon. But above all, he had a deep love for Jesus. From an early age he attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary, and was especially devoted to the Eucharist. At just 11 years old, he used his passion for technology to create an online catalogue of Eucharistic miracles, which has since been displayed across the world.
Though he enjoyed gaming, he set himself limits so he could focus more on God. He was also known for his kindness—helping the poor, defending children who were bullied, and giving to those in need from his own pocket money. Many people were touched by his friendship and generosity, and large crowds of the poor and homeless attended his funeral in 2006 when he died suddenly of leukaemia at just 15 years old.
Carlo has been called the “saint in sneakers” and “God’s influencer,” showing that holiness is possible in ordinary, modern life. He has been named a patron saint of the internet for his work of evangelisation online. His tomb in Assisi has become a place of pilgrimage, where he is remembered not only as a teenager with a love of soccer, computers, and his dog Billy, but as a young man who lived his life for Christ.
Saint Carlo’s example reminds us that young people, too, can live lives of faith, joy, and service. He once said, “To always be close to Jesus, that is my life plan.” May his life inspire our students and families to share God’s love in their own everyday lives.
Prayer Service Celebrating Our Fathers & Father Figures
We hope all our fathers and father figures enjoyed a wonderful Father’s Day on Sunday. Father’s Day is a time to show our appreciation for the love, guidance and care of fathers, grandfathers, and all those who take on a fatherly role in our lives. This special day reminds us to pause and give thanks for the many ways they support, nurture and inspire us.
Last Wednesday afternoon, our school community gathered for a special Prayer Service to celebrate and honour our fathers and father figures. Together we prayed in gratitude for their presence in our lives, while also remembering and holding in our hearts those who could not be with us.
Families are warmly encouraged to take time together at home to pray the Father’s Day Prayer Service, giving thanks for the fathers, grandfathers and father figures who play such an important role in our lives and in our faith journey.
Kind regards,
Denham Harvie

2025 Jubilee (Pilgrims of Hope)
What is the 2025 Jubilee?
The term “Jubilee” comes from the Hebrew term “yobel,” which means “ram’s horn.” In Jewish tradition, the sound of the horn marked the beginning of a particular year of remission and forgiveness. The Catholic Church adopted this tradition and made it a year of pilgrimage, prayer, and reconciliation.
What is the History of the Jubilee?
The first Jubilee of the Catholic Church was proclaimed by Pope Boniface VIII in 1300. Since then, the Church has celebrated a Jubilee every 25 years unless the Pope decides to call an extraordinary Jubilee, as Pope Francis did in 2015.
Why is 2025 a Holy Year for the Catholic Church?
The official Vatican website for the Holy Year 2025 — www.iubilaeum2025.va — says, “In 1300, Pope Boniface VIII called the first Jubilee, also known as a ‘Holy Year,’ since it is a time when God’s holiness transforms us.” The Jubilee is a time of forgiveness and reconciliation, with pilgrims worldwide flocking to Rome to celebrate the event. It is also a time of renewal and spiritual awakening, with the Pope and other religious leaders offering prayers, blessings, and ceremonies.
