Stem Festival
Our STEM Festival will be held next week! Please see Compass the Teaching, Learning and Wellbeing section of the newsletter for further details.
Prep - This term, students will be focusing on physical sciences and learning about how different things move. In lesson six, students continued to explore the Tale-Bot Pro robots. They used the different direction buttons to move the robot from one location to another, often finishing with a dance.
Grades 1 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program the Tale-Bot Pro robot. In lesson six, students continued working on their second challenge - navigating the robot around a Town. They were required to follow the roads to get the robot to different locations. When successful, students write down their code using the correct arrows so that it can be followed and checked by the teacher.
Grades 2 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program the Tale-Bot Pro robot. In lesson six, students continued working on their second challenge - navigating the robot to different shaped foods. Students identified all foods of the same shape, planned their code, tested their code and then, when successful, documented their code so it can be followed and checked by the teacher.
Grades 3 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program the VinciBot robot. In lesson six, students learned how to program the VinciBot to make different sounds. They learned how to code the robot to play a song, speak or make different noises. Students were required to build a code on their computer to follow a set path and make sounds along the way.
Grades 4 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program the VinciBot robot. In lesson six, students learned about the VinciBot robot's obstacle sensors. These sensors can detect how far away an object is from the robot. They used the sensor to code the robot to measure an object's distance, follow their hand, and to move and turn when an obstacle was in its path.
Grades 5 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program a micro:bit. In lesson six, students started working on a crystal ball challenge. They needed to use their understanding of coding logic to create a program that would give a random answer to questions (similar to a Magic 8 Ball). Students decided how many different responses they wanted, what each response would be and then they created the code using words and/or images to show the response.
Grades 6 - This term, students will be focusing on digital technologies and learning to program a micro:bit. In lesson six, students continued working on their Build a Robot challenge. This week's goal was to design and build their robot using cardboard. Students needed to think about how they wanted their robot to look and work with LEDs or motors.
