Student art projects

Clay Sgraffito
Year 11 Students have worked hard on their clay making skills this year, creating clay boxes engraved with the Sgraffito technique. A technique where students paint the clay in a dark glaze and scratch designs back into the clay to reveal the white clay underneath.
Students have explored memories from their past and discovered how some memories stay with us; even if it is a fractured portion of something we don’t quite understand. Core memories that shape the person we are and our belief system.
They have developed a range of imagery to support their memory and using the sgraffito technique have etched these onto the side of their hand-crafted clay boxes.
Artist Profiles
Year 11 art students have created profiles on artists and how they carved out their places in history. The posters were on show in the library for students and staff to engage with and learn from.
Brick Books
Thank you to all who participated in our whole-school sustainability market activity of “Brick Books”. If you would still like to create your favourite book, more bricks can be found down in art. Come down and Michelle Reeve will set you up with all you need.
"My Stuff"
Life today involves having a lot of ‘stuff’. It may be the special things we collected, or the ordinary practical items we keep and use in our everyday life. The stuff we keep may be carefully arranged on tables or shelves, or may be seen in the clutter of draws, cupboards, or thrown on the countertop as we arrive home after a long day.
The stuff around us tells a story of the person who owns it and can offer insight into who they are as a person.
Year 12 students have explored this theme and utilizing their acrylic painting skills have developed artworks which your you a small insight into who they are, and the things that are important to them.
Totem Animals
“If everyone does their part to protect just one living thing in this world, just think how far our circle of protection would reach."
On September 1, the Intensive English Centre (IEC) students were lucky to have special guest Sharon Egan join them in art. Sharon is a local Noongar artist who also sits on the board of the Fremantle Biennale. Sharon, shared stories of community and connection to the local land and its wildlife. She guided the students in a workshop creating totem animals in which hold a special place in your heart, becoming part of your family and thus taking on the responsibility of looking after the animal and its habitat.
Students worked alongside our new artist in residence Shupiwe Chongwe who we are pleased to have with us at North Lake for the next 10 weeks, working with the students towards the upcoming Fremantle Biennale.
