Author and Staff Member Sarah Lane Inspires Year 8 Writers in RE

This term, our Year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to be taught by Loreto College's staff member and children’s author Sarah Lane, who visited classes to share her passion for storytelling and inspire the next generation of writers.

Sarah spoke about her new children’s book, explaining how stories of courage can help young readers face their own challenges. She also gave the students practical tips on writing for 5–10-year-olds, including how to create engaging characters, build a meaningful message, and use literary devices to make it fun and to bring a story to life.

“I loved hearing how Sarah developed her story. It’s great it’s been published,” Year 8 student.

Following her visit, students worked on their own “Brave Adventures: Tales of Courage for Children” project. Each student wrote and illustrated a 8–10 page story about a character, child or animal - overcoming adversity. Their stories included a Bible quote about courage and links to Catholic Social Teachings, showing how bravery can create positive change in our world.

Sarah’s visit sparked plenty of creativity, and students were excited to share their finished books.
