Student Learning

Our recent Buddy Catch-Up sessions have been a wonderful opportunity for both Year 1 and Year 5 students to connect and learn together. Held in our new outdoor space, students explored the significance of yarning sticks and even created their own.

The Year 5 students showed growing leadership, guiding their younger buddies with patience, kindness, and encouragement. In the following session, everyone enjoyed the sunshine on the decking as the yarning sticks were put to meaningful use. Students practised respectful listening and sharing, taking turns to speak and listen with care.

Using chat cards, buddies shared their favourite things and opened up about who they are, helping to build both connection and confidence. These sessions are not only fun but also play a key role in fostering friendships and developing communication skills.

We also had the chance to celebrate Book Week by creating little tooth fairy bags and spending time on the new play equipment in the Primary area. Recently, in preparation for Sports Day, we came together again to practise the buddy events. This was not only great fun but also a fantastic opportunity to strengthen teamwork skills.

It is always special to see our older students step into mentoring roles and support their younger peers. The Buddy Program continues to highlight the importance of connection, leadership, and friendship across year levels.
