From the Classroom

Grade 5/6 Candy Shoes

Grade 5/6 students completed the design process to create a shoe design inspired by their choice of lolly/chocolate bar/drink. The learning outcomes were:

•Students will be able to design a shoe inspired by a candy label.

•Students will be able to use a color scheme in their shoe design.

•Students will be able to recall the responsibilities of a graphic designer.

It was important for students to see how graphic designers create images and layouts for some of the most famous brands. We discussed:

•Company brand identity (logos, typography, and color schemes)

•User interfaces on apps and websites

•Books, magazines, newspapers, and other publications

•Product packaging

•Advertisements and commercials

•Signage for stores, transportation, stadiums, and event spaces

•Video games

I think you'll agree they did an amazing job on their designs. Well done Grade 5/6!

Grade 1/2 Necklaces

Grade 1/2 students took inspiration from artist Jenny Kee to create pendants for a necklace. They designed and created their pieces out of magiclay, and last week were able to put their necklaces together with beads and coloured ribbon. They practiced threading and made design choices such as what order their pieces would go in and how they would decorate their necklace in other ways.

Physical Education

Athletics

This term in P.E, our focus was on Athletics in preparation for our school sports day. Students practised key events such as sprints, long-distance running, high jump, long jump, shot put, and discus. These sessions not only built skills but also helped students understand event rules and how to compete safely and fairly.

It was wonderful to see the effort, persistence, and improvement from all students throughout the term. We finished with a fantastic Athletics Day, where students had the chance to put their learning into action and celebrate their achievements together.

Division Athletics 2025

The 2025 Goulburn Murray Division Athletics Carnival will take place at McEwen Reserve Track and Field Complex, Shepparton, on Monday, 13 October.

8/9 years is not an age group at the next stages.

Science

Grade 1/2 - Up, Down and All Around

This term in science, students explored the land and sky, noticing how they change over time – whether quickly, slowly, or across the seasons. They sorted items from the garden into natural or man-made using Venn diagrams and thought about how these things might change if not cared for. Students also compared day and night, discussing how each effect what we do, and began redesigning our school garden with these ideas in mind.

Grade 3/4 - Beneath Our Feet

Students have been investigating soil, rocks, and landscapes by observing, describing, and testing their properties. They explored how wind, water, and weather can shape the land, including famous Australian landmarks, and used simple experiments to see how soil and landforms can change over time. Students also practised asking scientific questions, making predictions, and testing their ideas.

Grade 5/6 – Creators and Destroyers

Students explored volcanoes and how they can both help and harm the land. They investigated how volcanoes form and change landscapes, marked recent eruptions on a world map, and learned the difference between active, dormant, and extinct volcanoes. Students also discussed why people live near volcanoes and why eruptions can be difficult to predict.
