Principal Report

Principal Message – Week 9   Term 1

As we come to the close of term one, it's a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the journey our children have taken over the past few months. We've seen them settling into school routines with determination and grit, re-establishing old friendships and forging new ones along the way. At our school, we've placed a deliberate emphasis on the wellbeing of our children, recognizing its intrinsic connection to academic success. Research consistently shows that when children feel emotionally and socially supported, they are better equipped to thrive in their learning environment.

Two of the highlights of this term were undoubtedly our Sports Day and the Friendship Fair. These days weren't merely activities on the calendar; they embodied the essence of our school's ethos, emphasizing teamwork, entrepreneurial skills, and above all, fostering a sense of fun, friendship, and community spirit. The Friendship Fair, in particular, stands out as a unique celebration, entirely organized and executed by the children themselves. It encapsulates the essence of camaraderie and cooperation, showcasing our children’s abilities to collaborate and create something truly special. Sports Day, on the other hand, was a testament to the power of sportsmanship and inclusivity. Witnessing our children rally together, supporting and uplifting one another with genuine encouragement and respect, was truly heartening. It reminded us that sportsmanship isn't just about winning or losing; it's about honouring the individual journey of each participant. This ethos aligns seamlessly with the values we strive to instil in our chidlren, emphasizing the importance of respect, empathy, and compassion, both on and off the field. It resonates with the principles of the IB Learner Profile, where being principled and caring individuals is paramount. Through events like Sports Day and the Friendship Fair, we continue to nurture these values, ensuring our children grow not only academically but also as compassionate and socially responsible citizens.

Academically, we've seen remarkable progress among our children this term. From mastering new concepts to embracing challenges with resilience, they've shown all the traits for lifelong learning. As educators, we're proud to see their growth and development, knowing that a solid foundation has been laid for further growth and success in term 2.

As we approach the holiday break, it's important to strike a healthy balance between screen time and physical activity for our children. Recent research highlights the significance of this equilibrium in fostering children's language development and social skills. Studies have shown that excessive screen time can impede comprehension abilities, hindering children's understanding of written and spoken language. Therefore, this holiday season offers a prime opportunity for children to disengage from screens and immerse themselves in activities that promote comprehension, such as reading, storytelling, and interactive games. By prioritizing these activities, we not only support their cognitive development but also encourage meaningful interactions that enhance their social skills and overall well-being.

Lastly, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to you, our parents, for your unwavering support throughout the term. Your partnership is invaluable in creating a nurturing and enriching environment for the children at our school to learn and grow. As we head into the holidays, I wish you a safe and happy Easter with your families.
