A reflection on our focus on diversity, equality, and staff satisfaction
FOI Solutions has a proud history of diversity, equality and satisfaction of staff members over almost 26 years of operation.
We are committed to equal opportunity principles and fostering a positive work environment – we believe that everyone should be treated fairly and with respect, and valued for his or her individual skills and abilities. Our policies make clear that direct or indirect discrimination, sexual harassment, or victimisation will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and breaches will be treated seriously. Thankfully, because of the wonderful environment in which we work we have not had to make use of those processes.
We have an open door policy to facilitate frank and open discussions with and between staff, and to foster confidence to raise any work matters, including job satisfaction. This is in addition to ongoing feedback and formal review processes for staff.
Staff are integrally involved in operations and planning for the firm in all aspects from physical environment, equipment and resources, through to client service provision and business development. This happens through regular weekly and monthly meetings, training and development days, and our annual retreat.
We have a family friendly and inclusive work culture – staff have commented about how much they look forward to coming to work; the priority is on personal and family welfare with the support of co-workers. We like to think of our group as our work family and take steps to demonstrate that. This includes flexible work arrangements to enable better work/life balance including permitting work from home (pre and post COVID), occasional half days for unavoidable medical or similar appointments without loss of leave or remuneration.
Diversity of the work place is a central theme with staff ranging in age from 19 to late 50s, gender balance across legal and non-legal staff (8 females, 2 males) and equality of remuneration of persons in like positions, diverse ethnic backgrounds including Macedonian, Chinese, Dutch, Turkish, Indian, Italian, etc and we introduced a reasonable and agreed period of paid domestic violence leave before it became a "thing". Again, thankfully no staff have had to avail themselves of it.
All up, we are a happy bunch who enjoy what we do and hope it reflects well in our enthusiasm and level of service provision for our valued clients.
