Principal's Message
Term 1 Week 5
We are now over the halfway mark of Term 1, and it's been an incredibly busy start to the year here at Brinbeal Secondary College. It has been inspiring to witness our students embracing the many opportunities already available to them. Beginning with a positive note, I am delighted to share the impressive strides our students have made as they kicked off 2024 in a brand new school. It is truly heartening to observe our young learners engaging at school, actively participating in their lessons, and connecting with their friends and peers.
NAPLAN 2024
NAPLAN Testing will soon be taking place, with all NAPLAN tests online.
NAPLAN Online provides a better assessment, more precise results and is more engaging for students. NAPLAN Online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses, presenting students with questions that may be more or less difficult – resulting in better assessment and more precise results. (nap.edu.au)
NAPLAN Testing for all Year 7's begins on the 13th March.
During this time, all students in Year 7 will sit the national tests online. The testing period is being spread out over several days with online tests in Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language and Numeracy. We encourage all students to treat these tests seriously and strive to achieve their Personal Best.
The results once available will be used to:
- help teachers identify students who require greater challenges or additional support
- help the College identify strengths and if any, gaps in teaching programs and to set goals in Literacy and Numeracy
- provide additional feedback to students and parents about individual achievements and progress
All parents of students will receive a NAPLAN report on their child’s results. The report is only one aspect of the school’s assessment and reporting process and does not replace the more extensive and informed judgements made about your child by teachers. Thanks to our dedicated Assistant Principals & ICT team who are working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the College meets all technical requirements.
Attendance:
Your child’s attendance at school is critical.
“Missing school can have a big impact on students academically and socially. It can affect their test results, just as importantly, it can affect their relationships with other students, and lead to social isolation.
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.”
Recognising the fundamental importance of attendance to academic success, we emphasise the significance of regular school attendance. It is imperative for students to maintain an attendance rate of at least 90% to maximise their learning opportunities. Any student falling below this benchmark will receive support to address their attendance issues, ensuring they remain on track with their studies.
For students with attendance below 80%, we will collaborate closely with families and our Wellbeing Team to provide tailored support and interventions to improve attendance.
Kind Regards,
Mr. Simon Haber
