District Swimming

Congratulations WHPS 2024 Swim team

1st Place Wheelers Hill Primary School!

This year our swim team was made up of 27 students from Years 4, 5 and 6. Time trials were held at Swim World in Glen Waverley on Thursday February 8th. Many students confidently put their hands up, trying out for several different events. The district competition was held at the Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre on Thursday 15th February.

Our WHPS students competed against five other schools in the newly formed district of Monash Heights. The schools in this new district include Mt Waverley PS, Jells Park PS, Mount Scopus College, Burwood East PS and Essex Heights PS.

Events included: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, as well as freestyle and mixed medley relays. All the WHPS relay teams qualified for the Division competition and many of our individual events swimmers also progressed through to Division level.

The final scores saw WHPS with a comfortable win, which means WHPS will be the first name on the new Monash Heights District plaque, which will be on display at school soon. Such a strong start for the school moving forward in this new district. We also need to point out that this is the 4th swimming win in a row for the school. A wonderful effort.

1st      Wheelers Hill        82 points

2nd     Essex Heights      37 points

3rd      Jells Park                32 points

All students who came in the top 4 in their event were given the opportunity to compete again at Division level on Friday 1st March back at Monash Aquatic & Recreation Centre. This year we have 25 students representing the school at this level.

Many thanks to all senior school staff for their continued support and assistance during this busy first term. Special thank you to Rosemary Gillespie & Anita Woon for conducting the swimming trials. Thank you also to those parents who volunteered their time to assist, supervise, time, and support all our wonderful WHPS students.

Finally, well done to all students who participated in the 2024 Swim try outs and competition. We were especially proud of the enthusiasm, peer support, manners, behaviour and sportsmanship displayed by all of our students. Well done, thank you and we hope that many of you will volunteer to be involved in the competition again next year in 2025.

Special congratulations and good luck to all our Division competitors:
