Prep Community News

Dear prep families,

Our enthusiastic preps have been settling into their first few weeks at Tarneit Rise Primary School. They have started forming new friendships, learning their way around our school and grasping new routines. A reminder, for the month of February Preps do not attend School on Wednesdays. Preps start full time from Monday the 4th of March.

Learning to Learn

During Learning to Learn, we focus on preparing our students for school routines and classroom expectations. We could not be prouder of our preps on how well they have displayed our school values and protocols already.

Throughout L2L we also begin some writing, reading and maths lessons. Each day in writing we have practised different letters of our alphabet, using play doh or other writing activities to form the letters and share what the letter is. In our reading lessons we have read some nursery rhymes, and our students have loved listening to these and joining in with them. This has allowed us to learn some rhyming words. In maths we have begun practising our counting, we have used various materials and strategies to count. Our preps have also started exploring pattern. You may like to ask your child to create a pattern with objects they have at home!

Sip and Crunch

Sip and Crunch is a great way for your child to refuel on fresh fruit or vegetables during learning time. For Sip and Crunch, we ask that you add a small container of cut fruit or vegetables that is separate from your child’s lunchbox so that they can have it on their table to crunch on while learning. In addition, we also ask that you pack a bottle of water so that they can sip on this at their table during learning time.

Bravehearts Incursion

On Thursday 7th March, the prep students will be attending the Bravehearts incursion. The Bravehearts Education team will provide a personal safety incursion for all Prep students. The focus of the preventative education program is to protect children from sexual harm. This includes a simple, fun, non-threatening incursion for the students with Ditto, the brave Lion Cub mascot who will lead the songs and actions that reinforce the important personal safety messages.

Please provide consent through Compass. If you have any difficulties, please contact the office and they will be happy to help you.

Take Home Reading

At Tarneit Rise we have a take-home reading program. Each child will be given a day where they will change the books in their reading satchel or red prep bag with their teacher's assistance. The teacher will also be checking the journal so we can monitor how many nights of reading they have completed.

If you have any questions about this process, please speak to your child’s classroom teacher. They will be happy to help you.

Reminders

In term 1 and term 4, the UV gets very high. Please ensure that your child is bringing their Tarneit Rise hat to school so that they can play safely outside.

In term 1, parents/carers can walk into the pod to take their child to their classroom. At the end of the day, children need to be collected from their classrooms by their parents/carers.

Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled. This helps us to get them back to you if they are misplaced.

We look forward to more wonderful weeks together and sharing it with you!
