Year 12 Beach Night

Nat Ayton - Head of Cuthbert House

Last Friday afternoon, 119 of our Year 12s and several teachers ventured down Eastlink to enjoy the beach at Dromana. While the weather was a somewhat chilly 20 degrees, it didn’t stop the students from braving the water as swarms of them swam and played in the ocean. They enjoyed games of spike ball, soccer, vortex throwing, and even a very sophisticated picnic with various cheese spreads!

One of the evident highlights of the night was watching the students learn the thrilling art of fire twirling. Grace Gardiner (Class of 2021) generously gave up her time to teach us how to juggle and twirl flaming sticks and batons. The locals appeared in droves to witness this emerging new talent, which looked spectacular as the sun went down.

It was wonderful to see students and staff enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the beach, unwinding after a busy week. The beach night, and other social events like it, is a crucial part of the Year 12 journey. It helps remind our students that while their academic pursuits are important, it is only one aspect of who they are and who they are becoming.

Year 7 Camp

Leanne Benson - Year 7 Coordinator

Our Year 7s recently enjoyed five days at Waratah Bay Beach Camp in Gippsland, where they enjoyed countless opportunities for fun and adventure within God’s Kingdom.

The students were also presented with several challenges to overcome, whether it be conquering fears of heights during the flying fish and rock-climbing tower, or navigating through unfamiliar terrain during a day walk in the beautiful surrounds of Wilsons Promontory.

They experienced these things against a backdrop of very warm weather, a power outage, and a wild storm - each challenge providing opportunities for personal growth and resilience.

Through the challenges faced, lessons learned and friendships forged, students have emerged from the camp with a newfound sense of confidence, resilience, and a deeper understanding of themselves and their peers.

As the Year 7s returned home, they carried with them memories of laughter, adventure, and personal growth, ready to embrace the journey ahead in Secondary school with courage and determination.
