Friday 22 March to Sunday 24 March
We are excited that Music Camp is fast approaching and are looking forward to three days of rehearsals with orchestra, concert band, chamber strings and stage band. Further information will shortly be sent to families of students in these ensembles.
Each year we hold our Camerata Competition, a performance-based competition offering our secondary music students the opportunity to perform music of a high standard to a panel of adjudicators. Students who enter the competition are invited to perform at the Camerata Concert in the School Chapel on Friday 5 April 2024.
We hope to encourage students at a level of AMEB Grade 4 and above to enter the competition for 2024. The maximum performance time for each competitor is 6 minutes. The competition will be run during the school day on Wednesday 20 March, in Room 68, and students will be notified of when they are scheduled to arrive, warm up and perform.
The competition is an excellent opportunity for students to perform works they have been working on over the past year or new pieces they feel confident in performing.
Entries are due by 5pm on Friday 8 March. Please contact Miss Michelle Hayes at mhayes@kws.nsw.edu.au for further information.
Kinross Wolaroi School Orchestra is playing at the Orange Chamber Music Festival, as part of a regional youth orchestra established especially for the event. Please invite your family and friends to attend their free performance at the South Court in front of the City Library, at 4pm on Saturday 9 March. There are other free performances earlier on the day. Information at www.ocmf.com.au/cultured
A reminder to members of orchestra that the next sectional and general rehearsal will take place on Friday 8 March from 4:00pm - 8:00pm in the Performance Theatre. Rehearsals will continue on Saturday 9 March 10am - 2:15pm prior to the performance. A light dinner will be provided on Friday night. Please pack lunch for Saturday 9 March.
Students in Years 9 – 12 Music will be attending Encore, a concert of exemplary HSC Music 1, Music 2 and Extension Music performances and compositions from the 2023 HSC. Staff and students are particularly excited to watch Max Bloomfield from our Class of 2023 perform at this concert.
Encore will take place at the Sydney Opera House on Monday 4 March 2024. We will be travelling to Sydney by bus, departing from Allenby Road at 8am sharp. Students should be at school by 7.50am. We will be returning to Allenby Road at approximately 9.30pm. The cost of this excursion is covered by the excursion levy.
Further information will be sent to families soon. Should you have any queries regarding this excursion please do not hesitate to contact Sharon Martin, our Music Administrator at performingarts@kws.nsw.edu.au or email me at jshields@kws.nsw.edu.au
