From the Prefects

Ed Southwell and Halle Doyle

Hello families of Kinross Wolaroi School!

Welcome to the newest addition to the Bulletin, the Prefect page! This page is written by your Head Prefects, Ed Southwell and Halle Doyle, where we will share latest updates, initiatives and stories from the student voice. It is our goal to build a stronger connection between the students and the wider school community, and we hope this is a way to achieve this. To begin, we would like to introduce ourselves to you:

Hello all! I am Halle, your Head Girl Prefect for 2024. I would like to use this opportunity to introduce myself in more depth and explain what I would like to succeed in doing with my role this year.

I am currently a boarder and have been since I began my journey here in Year 7, 2019. I am currently part of New House, and thoroughly enjoy my time as part of what we all know to be one extended family with 45 additional sisters and wonderful staff members who create a lovely home away from home. I am a proud Wiradjuri woman from a small town west of Orange called Condobolin and have in parts been lucky enough to share my Kinross Wolaroi experience with my older brother and now my younger sister.

I have always embraced and enjoyed my school co-curricular activities, which have included a CUO in Cadets; Bronze, Silver and Gold level Duke of Edinburgh Awards; and the school Musical for the past three years. I encourage other students to be involved in everything that is on offer as it has allowed me to build relationships with fellow students outside of my own cohort, embrace the school spirit, and challenge myself through strength of character and determination.

My goal as Head Girl is to bring forth as many student ideas as possible and to enhance the student voice of Kinross Wolaroi in all aspects of school life. I am honoured and feel very privileged to lead my fellow students through the 2024 school year. I am looking forward to what the year will bring for us all and what exciting opportunities await us.

Hello everyone, I'm Ed, your Head Boy Prefect for 2024. I want to use this first edition of our article to introduce myself, giving a quick overview of who I am and what I hope to bring to the role.

My family has lived in our home near Mullion Creek since I was three, hence it’s the only place I have ever known as home. Before beginning my high school journey I attended Mullion Creek Public School, a small school about 5 minutes from home, 20 minutes north of Orange. I loved my time at this wonderful school and owe a great deal to the invaluable life lessons and foundations that I learnt while attending.

I have been at Kinross Wolaroi School since Year 7, following in the footsteps of my brother Charlie who at the time was starting Year 10.  Charlie was a prefect at Kinross Wolaroi, and I distinctly remember when he came home and told us - from that moment I knew that I wanted to be an advocate for the School just like him.

I am a member of the Cadet Unit at school where I hold the rank of CUO, and love the opportunities this gives me to engage with many year levels within the school. I am also a 3rd grade rugby player, which is without a doubt the most enjoyable sport team I have ever been a part of.  Through these co-curricular activities and the many more I am involved in, I have been able to meet many members of the Kinross Wolaroi student cohort, and am amazed by the level of generosity, kindness, and potential among them.

It is with great honour and gratitude that I take on this responsibility for 2024. I am a strong believer of ‘giving everything a go,’ and Kinross Wolaroi is the perfect school to support this ethos. From school musicals to rugby, our school offers it all, and I have tried to make the most of my schooling and the great privilege of an education here.

As the year progresses, I hope to get to know as many of you as possible, and to support and help you along your path at this school. I can’t wait to see what this year holds for Halle and me and wish to express my thanks for this great leadership opportunity.

Once again, we are both looking forward to the coming year and running as many initiatives as possible. We also hope to meet as many of you as possible at the upcoming Country Fair and to introduce ourselves in person. Thank you for taking the time to read our first addition in The Bulletin and we hope to provide you with interesting information from the student body.

Kind regards,

Halle and Ed
