What we've been up to in our garden
The autumn has arrived and our summer crops are getting close to their finish. Although we’re still enjoying plenty of tomatoes and cucumbers, we have started planning for the autumn planting. In addition to our vegetables, we are harvesting and drying herbs and teas like lemon verbena, sage and oregano.
Senior students have been busy planting yellow beans and potatoes. Although the beans are usually planted in spring, we had great success planting them in autumn due to mild temperatures and quick cropping.
Baked potatoes were a great hit and as requested by students, we’re planning them again.

Yr 3/4s have done a great job picking the leaves of lemon verbena and sage branches. The Padua was filled with the wonderful scents as they worked through the piles of herbs. The leaves are washed, dried and packed for later use. We’re looking forward to warm teas during the colder months.
Do you recognise these insects? They are larvae of beneficial insects - Ladybugs. We love seeing them in the garden as they feed on powdery mildew that attacks leaves of cucumbers and zucchinis. Students are really fascinated with them.
