From the Principal's Desk

Dear CGPS Families and Friends,

Last Friday we celebrated annual ES Appreciation Day, where we acknowledged the important work of all our education support staff. Without our amazing ES staff we would be lost! From the ladies in our front office who keep the cogs turning and processes rolling along, to our integration and wellbeing staff supporting individual and small groups of students to achieve success every day, we say thank you. We are so grateful for all you do across the school supporting students and staff to make CGPS the best school it can be. Thanks to all the teachers and students who showed their appreciation with kindness, cards, hugs and cheesecake! We hope all our ES champions felt the love and know how valuable they are to us every day.

SCHOOL and GATE OPENING and CLOSING TIMES

Gates open at 8.30am

Gates close at 9.05am

Gates re-open at 3.20pm

Gates close at 3.45pm

Outside of these times, entrance and exit from the school is via the front office only.

School gates are locked during the day for the safety of our students. Unless registered to be onsite (staff, students, or signed in visitors) there is no access to the school other than via the front entrance. To gain access to the school you need to have a valid working with children pass, have signed in and been given a visitor pass and be let in through the automatic doors inside the foyer, which requires a code.

We ask all parents and carers dropping children in the morning, to ensure they are in class by 9am in time for the morning roll. The gates will now be closing at 9.05am meaning any latecomers will need to come through the office to be signed in and collect a late pass. Being on time for school is so important for ensuring students start their day with their peers and are ready to learn. All classes run welcome circles at the start of the day and being late means missing out on the opportunity to connect and contribute to the morning news, hear about the class schedule for the day and take in any important learning instructions.

Staff and Leadership Opportunities and Movements

We have welcomed Miss Jess Boskell back to CGPS after some time travelling to different parts of Australia. Miss Boskell will be taking classes while teachers are on leave or training for the remainder of the year. She is currently in 1D while Miss Mitchell is travelling abroad.

Liam Flanagan will be completing an internship at another school as a part of the school leadership course he is completing through the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. Mr Flanagan will be on this placement from week 7-10 this term. During his absence Mrs Ann-Marie Pearce will be Acting Assistant Principal (year 5/6 sub-school leader and whole school wellbeing). This has provided a further leadership opportunity for a teacher to take on Mrs Pearce's Learning Specialist role, providing instructional practice guidance and support to teachers from grade 3-6. Mrs Kristel Walker has been appointed Acting Learning Specialist for the four weeks.

Classes impacted by staff movements or leave will be contacted via Compass regarding temporary arrangements and replacement teachers.

Industrial Action Impact to School Reports

As a part of the AEU industrial action, a ‘ban on all aspects of work related to the provision of written comments on student reports that will be provided to parents’ was implemented for its members. Reports will continue to indicate student achievement against the relevant curriculum areas of the Victorian Curriculum F–10 but full written comments will not be provided. The department of education have acknowledged that even with a lift on this ban, there would not be time for the provision of written comments for this semester.

You will receive a report for your child in the last week of term as usual, which will contain progression points showing learning attainment and growth. If you have concerns or wish to discuss your child's progress in more detail, as always, you can contact your child's teacher to arrange a meeting.

Mother's Day Stall Success

THANK YOU to Mel Honey, president of our Parents' Association and all of the parents in the group, who volunteered their time to run our recent Mother's Day Stall. The stall was a big success, raising around $1900 for the school and providing many smiles for students as they proudly bought teddies, mugs, keyrings and treasures for their mums, nannas, aunts and special women in their lives.

Take care everyone

Alison
