Around the Classrooms

Year 1/2L

Good Afternoon Families,

The students of 1/2L have had an amazing start to the 2025 school year!

Here is a snapshot of our first weeks of learning and belonging.

Getting started: The students engaged in our Swell-Come Week program. This included a variety of activities designed to welcome them and promote feelings of belonging in our shared classroom space.

Firstly, the students worked on their ‘All about Me’ sheets. This activity allowed them to get to know one another by providing a variety of different personal facts. These included: Their name, a self-portrait, their birthday, their favourite food, their favourite colour, their family members and what they like to watch on television.

Next, the students worked on their ‘Holiday Glasses’. This activity required the students to reflect on their summer holidays before creating two detailed drawings of events that took place. They then shared these experiences with the class.

Our class then worked on their ‘Kind People’ activity. In this lesson they were tasked with identifying the kinds of things that they could do to keep our classroom a safe and welcoming space. Some answers included: Using kind words, binning our rubbish, waiting for our turn and trying your best!

We personalised our Swell-Come Week activities through both the ‘Respect and Name Colouring’ activity, as well as the ‘What I Want to Be’ activity. The ‘What I Want to Be’ task allowed the students to demonstrate their identify by sharing what career they wanted to pursue in the future. This included writing, drawing and colouring components. Once completed, the children were able to practise mindfulness through the ‘Respect and Name Colouring’ task.

This has been a snapshot of our Swell-Come Week activities as our busy learners move into their Literacy, Numeracy, Religion, Inquiry, PBL and Specialist subject areas.
