Foundation Learning Community

Foundation News

Thank you to all our families for coming to our 3 way chats this week. It was lovely to learn more about your child and to tell you about the great things they have been doing in Foundation.

Sport Times

Sport times for Foundation will be each Wednesday (beginning March 12th when the children will be at school full time) and each Friday. They can wear their sports uniform on these days.

Home Reading and check in days

Thank you for taking the time to read to your child at home and jotting this down in your child’s reading diary. We loved the drawings of their favourite part of the story! On the front of the clear folder you will see a sticker indicating your child’s check in day. On this day the students will sit with their teacher for a few minutes before the morning bell. The teachers will have a quick look at their diaries and have a general check in about their feelings and how they are settling in. When they eventually start bringing home books, they will read these to the teacher on their check in day too.

Classwork

In Mathematics, we are currently completing our first topic on following and making a two part and a three part pattern. We were very impressed with how well the students have taken to this. Our next topic is ‘Time’. We will be sequencing events, looking at parts of the day and learning the names of the days of the week.

In Literacy, students have been working hard on developing their ‘Phonemic Awareness’ in preparation for the next phase, which is learning letters. We have been counting words in a sentence and learning to recognise spoken words which rhyme. We are now counting the beats within a word, syllables. Please note, we have added a rhyming activity game in your child’s blue reading folder if you would like to play at home!

Dates to add to your calendar

  • School Fete – Saturday March 15th
  • Foundation Teddy Bear’s Picnic – 27th of March (More details to come)

Thank you for a wonderful first few weeks of school and for supporting your child on their school journey.
