Kitchen Garden News

The Year 3/4 Kitchen Garden Program will commence Monday 17th February. As the Kitchen Dining room is still out of action we will run modified activities focussing mostly in the garden with some cooking in the staffroom.

Help needed!

We still require parent and carer helpers for the activities to run effectively. Please sign up below AND ensure you present a valid Working with Children Check to the school office before your first session.   Further information about volunteering at SKIPPS can be found on the 'Community News' page of this newsletter.

Could Year 3/4 parents and carers please email Chantel and Allison to let them know of any dietary requirements (allergy or dietary choice) your child has.

We need this information in advance to plan out the menus and cater for all.

Anyone with a green thumb who would like to help out in the garden on other days please get in touch with Allison on 0410 788 257. Even to help water the wicking beds or do a little bit of weeding would be a great help.

The garden is wild and overgrown at the moment - the perfect habitat for insects and other creatures. We harvest seeds when plants are at the end of their life and use the weeds to feed to the chickens so although it may look unkept it is by design.

Even though  the garden is on public land the produce is grown for and by the children to use in our program.  If you see anyone taking produce and feel comfortable, kindly remind them that it is for the children. Too many times, produce has been taken and left us with none to use.

Thank you to all who signed up to the chicken sitter roster. It is now currently filled. If you signed up but didn’t attend one the training session last week, please get in touch with Allison and she will run through what needs to be done with you at another time.

We are looking forward to another fun filled year in the kitchen garden!

Allison and Chantel
