Play Leaders

The Play Leaders program is one we have been running for several years here at SKiPPS.

Play stands for: PLAY (Positivity, Leadership and Activated Youth) - a program designed to enhance the resilience and wellbeing of young people.

Play Leaders provides an opportunity for our Year 5 students to step up and be leaders in our school. The program provides a platform for students to support each other, practice positive values, take responsibility and develop their leadership abilities.

In the first week of term, students were informed of a huge change with Play Leaders this year...that every Year 5 student would have the opportunity to qualify! The Year 5's were excited (and a little nervous) to step up as leaders in the school and show they could embody the school values to facilitate games for the younger students. They then took part in a full day of training with the lovely facilitators, Sally and Scott along with their guests Nick and Kelly.

Through the program training, the students learnt how to facilitate safe and fun games for younger students at school during break times by taking part in the games themselves. They then spent the afternoon putting their learning into practice by running sessions for small groups of Year 1 students. This was full of challenges but also lots of laughs and encouragement.

When finally brought together to reflect on the busy day, the leaders were able to debrief on the highlights and challenges that they faced. Many shared the positive impact their team members played in supporting the Year 1 students and how they helped to encourage them to have fun and be a part of each activity.

Our new Play Leaders will now begin promoting the program within the school and look to begin running sessions this week at break times.

Well done to all the Year 5 students for taking part and becoming our Play Leaders of 2025!
