General Information & Reminders

Diaries

As part of our Homework routine, students will be required to record their weekly reading and read aloud to a parent/guardian. Parents are asked to sign the school diaries at least once per week to indicate that they have heard their child read. Teachers will check the diaries each Thursday. Diaries need to come to school every day.

Homework

Homework is presented in a grid format where students can determine which task they would like to complete for the week. It will generally consist of:

  • Daily independent reading to promote enjoyment and interest (at least 3 times a week). If your child is a confident reader, this is a great opportunity to ask your child to retell what they just read to you and also ask prompting questions to assist with comprehension.
  • When required, tasks to support classroom learning, such as spelling or maths. This year we will be using Matific as on online platform to support the Maths taught in the classroom. Students will be bringing home login details shortly.
  • Tasks to investigate topics, apply new knowledge and gather information in preparation for future classroom learning. In particular, the "Family Member Interview" that links to our Inquiry. Further instructions are detailed on the homework sheet.

Homework will be sent out in homework books in Week 4. Homework will go home on a Wednesday and is due back on a Tuesday each week.

Camp

After much deliberation, it has been decided that we will no longer be offering a two-night Camp experience for our Grade 3 students.

This is due to two main factors. Firstly, we are very mindful of the continuing increase in camp and transport costs that must be passed on to families.

Secondly, since Covid we have seen an increase in the number of children who have had no overnight experience away from family. This lack of preparedness has led to more and more students not attending and made it challenging for many students that do, impacting on the overall benefit and enjoyment of camp.

We trust you will understand our position and with an extra year to develop independence and potentially attend the Dad’s/Kids Camps, we hope your child will be better placed to enjoy their two night Year 4 camp experience in 2026.

Library Books

During our library session, we choose suitable texts for students to read at home and in the classroom. The following factors will be taken into account when choosing books to read at home or in the classroom - Does it interest them? Do they understand it? Do they know most of the words? The library book that goes home should be regarded as their reading material for the next week or so (longer if it's a large book). We understand that many of the students have an extensive collection of suitable novels and they may read those in place of the book they chose at the library.

Seesaw

Each week we will make a Seesaw post which may include class learning, work samples, special events or celebrations of achievements. Teachers will distribute a log-in at P/T interviews if you do not already have access.
