From the Year Prep Classroom

Hello Prep Families!
We are already into Week 5 of the school year, and it has been a busy and exciting time for our Prep students! The children are so settled, and we are so proud of the way that they can do their jobs independently and get settled into their day. On Monday we welcomed some Year 11 Psychology students from Sacred Heart College to the Prep space, the big kids played with us while doing some activities to support their learning! Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been learning about in Prep.
Literacy In literacy this week, our focus has been on building phonological awareness through rhyme, syllables and counting words in sentences. Students have been engaging in a variety of activities to develop their understanding of sound patterns. It would be great if you could talk about words that rhyme and count syllables in words in everyday context.
Numeracy In numeracy, we’ve just completed our unit of work on patterns, making two- and three-part patterns. This week, we have begun to look at measurement, with a special emphasis on days of the week and ordering daily events. Students are using fun activities to explore the different parts of the day, weekdays, and weekends!
Religious Education (RE) In RE, students have been learning about the concept of prayer and discovering that we can pray anywhere and at any time. This week, we talked about important people in our lives, including Jesus, and explored places where students feel they could pray. The students have created beautiful drawings to show where they might pray, such as under a tree or by a river. If you could please email in a photo of your family, we will display it in the classroom and use it as part of our learning activities. It will be a wonderful way for the children to connect their school experiences with their home life.
