Respectful Relationships
Mrs. Danielle Lombardi has been welcomed into Year 5 on a Tuesday each week. Danielle will focus on the Respectful Relationship units throughout the year. This week she focused on ‘recognising positive, negative and ‘mixed’ emotions.’
Home Reading
Year 5 students are encouraged to read at home for a minimum of 80 minutes per week. This is to be recorded in their school diary. Diaries are used at school throughout the week, so we ask that rather than taking diaries home, children record their reading each morning as part of their daily set up.
Diaries will be checked by class teachers each Friday.
Divisional Swimming Wangaratta
Congratulations to the following swimmers who are representing the school and Yr 5 today in Wangaratta: Danny Ryan, Ethan Savage, Ella Knight, Alex Bridgman-Aitken, Olive Cummins, Harley Dunlop, Fletcher Scott and Skye Strawhorn.
Literacy
The students the past two weeks have continued to develop reading, writing, vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills. We have also extended their time with authentic reading and writing. Our class novel, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, is nearing the finish. Joey, the horse and the main character, is currently deeply involved in a war involving the British and the Germans. The students have finished up a focus on ‘Narrative Structure and Writing’ and will now move into ‘Persuasive Writing’ e.g. Should animals have been used in World Wars?
Congratulations to our Student of the Week Award winners over the past two weeks.
Maths
Our Year 5's, have been focusing on ‘addition’ this week including some thinking with numbers and rearranging digits e.g. magic squares. Setting goals in their Maths learning too has been important as students can look back on their learning and see the improvement.
Inquiry
Use of social media has been the focus for students this week! Mobile phones, friends, dangers, families, parental involvement, school use, etc. are just some of the themes that have been tackled! The students thoroughly enjoyed the healthy debate and discussions.
