HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL

The Year 3-6 students all went to the Aquarena on Friday 14th February for the annual ENPS Swimming Carnival.

They were able to select and compete across the four main strokes. The aims were to have a go, display sportsmanship, support their house and even give themselves a chance to qualify for the district swim carnival on February 21st.

Thank you to all parent and teacher helpers on the day. These days would not be possible without you!

The House Cup will be presented at assembly on Friday 28th February (weather permitting).

Science

Hello from the Science Room!

The new year has started brilliantly! The students are practising to justify their thinking with evidence. There have been lots of questions and investigations. The school cohort are constantly  searching for the answers to why, through a see-think-wonder process which is being regularly revisited.

In Foundation, the students are recognising that the behaviours of animals are purposeful and help them to survive.

In Grade 1, we have identified the needs of animals and are linking them to where they live. The Grade 2 students are exploring the properties of materials.

Grade 3 / 4 classes are working on activities around heat energy and have delved into sustainable power sources. The upper school students have experimented with conservation of matter and the particular nature of substances.

At home, please support your child’s curiosity by discussing what they see, think and wonder. Remember that they are only children for a short time.

Visual Arts – Foundation, Year One and Year Two

It has been wonderful to welcome back students into the art room and to meet the new Foundation students.

This term, Year One and Two students have been creating hearts and stars to remind themselves to be kind to each other and themselves while creating. The stars remind us to just try. The children have collaged and used drawing skills to create people to add to their star and heart backgrounds.

The Foundation students have been introduced to their first art element ‘line’ and have created themselves, birds and used water colour paints to highlight lines. They were very excited to bring these home to share.

Many more fun activities are planned for the term as well as lots of learning. I will keep you posted!!!

Library -  T1 Week 4

It has been a wonderful start to the year in our brand new Library Space!

Foundation kids have visited the Library for the very first time and we have been spending time getting to know each other, learning our Library Routine and borrowing books!

In Year 1 & 2 we have been exploring books that align with our CARE school values and visiting the Library Routine. It has been so much fun exploring the new space and borrowing for the Picture Story, Fiction & Nonfiction sections of the library.

If you are available to be a parent helper in your child’s Library time please contact me at andrea.pierce@education.vic.gov.au . We will start our parent helpers for Year 1 & 2 straight away and stay tuned for an email for when Foundation classes will be starting parent helpers in the Library.

A little reminder- Please help your child to look after their library books and bring their library bag on their Library day. Your child needs a library bag to be able to borrow.

Auslan

What a wonderful start we have had to Auslan this year. Semester One sees our Year 3s to 6s taking part in weekly sessions to begin the year. It has been a joy to see students working hard and conversing in the Auslan language together.

We started off the term with lots of revision, as many of the students haven’t learnt Auslan since June last year.

We have revisited the Alphabet and trialled how long it takes us to sign all the way through (ask you child to help with this and see how quickly you can do it too!), we have also refreshed our knowledge of numbers and colours.

I look forward to the rest of the semester together, and hope to see lots of smiling faces from our Year 3s to 6s at Auslan Choir!
