Year 5/6 - Newsletter

Eltham North Primary School - Year 5/6 Newsletter

Dear Year 5/6 Parents and Guardians,

We hope you’ve had a great week! Here’s a recap of what we’ve been up to in class and some important upcoming events and reminders.

English We have been working through the book War Horse in class. Students have begun crafting an orientation for their own narratives, each featuring an animal as the main character. Lots of effort has gone into creating descriptive writing about characters and settings, and we are seeing some fantastic creativity!

Maths In maths, we have been continuing our place value unit, focusing on placing decimals on number lines and graphing negative numbers. Students are working hard to strengthen their understanding of number placement and relationships.

Inquiry Our inquiry unit has taken us through the different types of immigration, as students compared the experiences of migrants and refugees coming to Australia. It has been wonderful to see their engagement and thoughtful discussions on this topic.

School Events and Highlights

We had our ENPS House Swimming Carnival last Friday, and it was fantastic to see the Year 5/6 students dressed up in their house colours, creating an exciting and supportive environment for the younger students. Well done to everyone who participated and cheered on their peers!
