From the Principal (and the Principal for the day)

Dear Families,

A Day in the Principal's Chair!

By George | Principal for the Day

What an exciting day I had as Principal for the Day at Lysterfield Primary School!

My morning began by welcoming students as they arrived at school. I loved greeting everyone with high-fives and helping them start the day with a smile.

Next, I visited our Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 classrooms to see all the great learning that was happening. I was really impressed with how well everyone was listening and working hard. I especially noticed how well the Grade 1 students were "chinning it" and showing they were ready to learn. The Grade 2 students were enjoying a special end-of-unit celebration, watching The Lorax with their soft toys, oodies and blankets after completing their Literature Unit.

Mrs Roose then took me on a walk around the school to check if anything needed fixing. We inspected the drink taps, playgrounds and the toilets near the gym. The good news is that the toilets are already scheduled to be repaired over the school holidays!

I also spent some time visiting our Grade 5 and 6 students before they started Senior School Sport. I can't wait to represent Lysterfield when I'm in Grade 5 and 6.

One of my favourite parts of the day was sharing morning tea and a special lunch with our principals. As Principal for the Day, I also decided everyone deserved a little extra recess, which I think was a very popular decision!

To finish the day, I had the opportunity to share a report at assembly about everything I had seen. I was proud to tell everyone how impressed I was with the excellent listening, positive behaviour and wonderful learning happening across our school.

Thank you to everyone for making my day as Principal so much fun. It was a fantastic experience, and I loved seeing what it's like to lead such an amazing school!

Celebrating Another Wonderful Term

On Wednesday afternoon, I had the pleasure of attending our Grade 4 Noteables afternoon. Students proudly shared their learning about Australians who have demonstrated courage, service and mateship, but what struck me most was what happened after families had heard from their own child. Parents continued to wander through the learning spaces, stopping to listen to other students, asking thoughtful questions and celebrating their learning too. It was a wonderful reminder of what makes Lysterfield Primary School so special – a community that values learning and genuinely celebrates the success of all children.

As I reflect on the term, that afternoon perfectly captures the spirit of our Pegasus Family.

Over the past ten weeks, our students have participated in an incredible range of learning opportunities. From our Grade 6 Canberra Camp to the Grade 1 Scienceworks excursion, the Grade 2 Ancient Greece Virtual Reality incursion, the Grade 3 Indigenous Australia incursion, Prep Teddy Bear Day, the Grade 2 parent learning event connected to their Knowledge Rich Unit on Uluru, district sport, Hooptime and countless rich classroom learning experiences, our students have been challenged, inspired and encouraged to grow.

Beyond the classroom, our school has also been buzzing with community events. We have welcomed many prospective families through our 2027 Prep tours and Taste of Prep evening, enjoyed our Prep Mother's Day celebration, raised funds through Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, supported families through our Second-Hand Uniform Shop, celebrated with the Mother's Day Stall, and enjoyed the colour and excitement of our fantastic Colour Run. We also recently completed our School Review, an important opportunity to reflect on our achievements and identify priorities for the future.

What all of these experiences have in common is the incredible contribution of our parent community.

Whether you volunteered your time at the Colour Run, Mother's Day Stall or Second-Hand Uniform Shop, coached district sport or Hooptime teams, transported students to the John Monash Science School, assisted on excursions, attended classroom learning events, joined us for special celebrations, or supported your child's learning from home, your involvement enriches the lives of our students in countless ways.

Schools simply cannot provide these opportunities without strong partnerships with families. Every hour volunteered, every conversation had with a child, every event attended and every offer of support helps create the vibrant, connected school community that we are so proud of.

On behalf of our staff, thank you for your generosity, your encouragement and the trust you place in us each day. Together, we continue to create a school where students are known, supported and inspired to achieve their best.

I wish all members of our Pegasus Family a safe, restful and well-deserved holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting Term 3.
