Principal's Message to the School Community

End of Term 2 Celebration of Learning
As Term 2 comes to a close, we are proud of the fantastic learning that has taken place across our school.
In Literacy, students have built strong reading, writing, and communication skills, showing growing confidence and creativity. In Numeracy, they have developed their problem-solving abilities and deepened their understanding of key mathematical concepts through engaging, hands-on learning. Our Humanities and Inquiry units have encouraged curiosity and critical thinking, with students exploring big ideas and making meaningful connections to the world around them.
Alongside classroom learning, students have enjoyed a wide range of events, excursions, and whole-school activities that have strengthened our community and created memorable experiences. These have included:
- RACE Agri Tech Roadshow
- Numerous Cross Country events
- Wear a Toch of Pink Day to support breast cancer
- MSO Hamer Hall excursion
- Mother’s Day Stall
- Foundation Swimming and Water Safety Program
- CDSSA Soccer
- CDSSA Winter Sports
- Building Language Leaders Program
- STAIR Project Survey
- Attitudes to School Survey
- Numerous Open Classrooms
- Year 5/6 Travel Expo
Positive NAPLAN results
We thank our staff and families for their ongoing support and wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday break.
Semester 1 Student Reports
Student achievement reports for Semester 1 will be released as usual this year.
Reports will be available on Compass from 3:00 pm on Friday 26 June. They will continue to provide important information about student learning and attainment; however, full descriptive comments will not be included due to industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in more detail at our upcoming parent–teacher interviews, scheduled for Wednesday 22 July. Please note that this will be a student-free day and normal classes will not be held. However, students are encouraged to attend their scheduled interviews with you.
Each interview will run for 15 minutes and will take place between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm in your child’s regular or specialist classroom. Bookings are now open via the Conference section on Compass.
Farewell to Deb Allshorn
It is with both gratitude and a sense of loss that we announce the retirement of Deb Allshorn from her role as our School Business Manager. Deb will finish at the school at the end of this term.
After nearly 16 years serving in this position at our school and an outstanding 40-year career with the Department of Education, Deb leaves behind a legacy of dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment. The role of School Business Manager is central to the effective operation of any school, requiring expertise, precision, and the ability to manage complex responsibilities behind the scenes. Deb has performed this role with exceptional skill, ensuring our school has operated smoothly and efficiently for many years.
Importantly, Deb has been far more than an administrator. She has been an integral link between the school and our wider community, building strong, trusted relationships with staff, families, and external partners alike. Her calm presence, knowledge, and willingness to support others have made her an invaluable member of our team.
As Deb steps into retirement, she is about to embark on an exciting new chapter, spending extended time overseas in Canada with her family. We are delighted for her as she takes this well-earned opportunity, although she will most certainly be missed by us all.
We are also pleased to share that a thorough succession plan has been in place over recent years to ensure a smooth transition. Vanessa Fisher will step into the role of School Business Manager, bringing continuity, capability, and a deep understanding of our school operations. Supporting this transition, Bree Warner will also be increasing her time fraction at the school, strengthening our administration team.
Please join us in thanking Deb for her extraordinary service and in wishing her all the very best for her retirement and travels.
Farewell Charli
It is with both excitement and a touch of sadness that we share the news that Charli Warren, who has worked as an Education Support (ES) staff member, predominantly in the P–2 area since August last year has been accepted as a recruit into the Victorian Police Academy. Charli is due to commence her initial six months of training in late June so will finish with us next Wednesday.
While we will certainly miss Charli’s warmth, professionalism, and dedication to our students and staff, we are incredibly proud of her achievement. This is a significant and well-deserved step, and a reflection of her commitment to serving and supporting others.
We thank Charli sincerely for the positive impact she has made at KPS in such a short period of time and wish her every success as she embarks on this exciting next chapter of her career. We have no doubt she will make a meaningful difference in her new role, just as she has in our community.
Please join us in congratulating Charli and wishing her all the very best for the future.
First Day of Term 3
