Learning and Curriculum Primary - Stage 3

Human Society and its Environment Syllabus
This year we have been planning and preparing for the implementation of the new Human Society and its Environment syllabus for 2026. This work has provided opportunities to refine what is currently being taught across Stage 3 and reimagine the possibilities to continue to spark curiosity and wonder of the world around us across both History and Geography.
According to AERO (2023), "A knowledge-rich curriculum is a powerful lever to support excellence and equity in schooling by setting high expectations and making explicit the shared knowledge all students should be supported to access". The attainment of knowledge in education is therefore the goal.
The aim of the Human Society and its Environment K–6 Syllabus is for students to develop:
knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Cultures and Histories
geographical and historical knowledge, understanding and skills
knowledge and understanding of Australia's democracy to become active, informed members of their community
a sense of belonging, awe and wonder about their world and about the past.
For further information regarding the new syllabus, please refer to the Parent and Carer Guide below.
