This Semester’s Celebration of Learning in Week 3 was a wonderful opportunity for students to take the lead in sharing their artistic growth and creativity with their families. The event, an important part of the Junior School’s approach to reporting, encourages students to take responsibility for their learning, reflect on their progress, and proudly communicate their achievements.

Parents and guardians were welcomed into classrooms to engage in meaningful conversations with their children about their learning journey. Through this process, students developed confidence and ownership over their work, while families gained a deeper insight into the creative and reflective processes that shape their education.

It was especially exciting to see Visual Art included as part of the Celebration of Learning this year. Students from Prep to Year 4 proudly showcased pieces from their Sculpture and 3D Modelling unit, each year level focusing on a different artist or concept to inspire their creations:

  •  Prep – Rollercoaster sculptures, exploring line through playful 3D forms

  •  Year 1 – Miro-inspired sculptures, experimenting with abstract shapes and vibrant colour

  •  Year 2 – Clay dogs, developing foundational skills in hand-building and form

  •  Year 3 – 3D Dancers, inspired by Keith Haring’s expressive and energetic figures

  •  Year 4 – Clay buildings, influenced by the architecture of ancient civilisations

Students spoke with pride about their creative choices, materials, and the processes involved in bringing their ideas to life. Parents enjoyed seeing firsthand the thoughtful exploration, problem-solving, and imagination that underpin each artwork.

The inclusion of Visual Art in this year’s Celebration of Learning highlighted the importance of creativity in developing confidence, reflection, and communication. It was a joyful reminder of how art allows every student to express themselves and celebrate their learning journey in unique and meaningful ways.

Visual Arts and Technologies Exhibition

Article by Michael Kapadia, College Head of Visual Arts

On Thursday the 23rd of October, the Visual Arts and Technologies faculties hosted an exhibition of outstanding student work from Years 10 to 12. Students were able to view the exhibition during recess and lunch, with the official launch taking place after school. The launch event was a resounding success, as the Assembly Hall buzzed with the energy of excited students, proud parents and enthusiastic staff.

An important feature of this exhibition was the announcement of the winner of the College Art Acquisition Award. Each year, the school purchases an artwork from a Year 12 student that we believe will serve as an example of artistic and creative excellence for future generations to see. This year, the panel, consisting of art teachers and the principal, selected the work of Giselle Mammone titled Tranquillity. This piece combines a Monet style artwork with projection and a choreographed performance, in a display that is engaging and highly evocative. We congratulate Giselle and look forward to displaying her work prominently in the College.

Thank you to all the staff, students and parents who contributed to the success of this exhibition. It served as an impressive showcase of what the pursuit of excellence looks like within our Visual Arts and Technologies subjects.
