WHAM!

What's Happening At Milgate!

Acknowledgement of Country

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People, and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

Milgate’s Vision

To provide a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that challenges students to become inquirers, thinkers and caring young people who are able to interact in the global society with respect and intercultural understanding

From this term onwards, our school newsletter will be published fortnightly instead of weekly. This change will allow us to share more meaningful updates, highlights, and upcoming events in each edition while reducing the number of emails sent to families.

We appreciate your continued engagement and encourage you to keep an eye out for our next issue in two weeks’ time!

2026 Parent Payments Details

On behalf of School Council, we would like to thank the very large number of families who supported the school via the Parent Payments Program and Donations.

Community support via fundraising activities and donations to the building fund has enabled the school to greatly improve facilities for learning and play (see below).

In 2026, we will continue to build on our School Strategic Goals by further enhancing our approach to challenging, supporting, and engaging students in Mathematics. Thanks to the collective investment and commitment of our school community, Milgate students continue to achieve exceptional results — with 95% of Year 3 and 90% of Year 5 students achieving NAPLAN Writing results in the Strong or Exceeding bands. These results reflect the direct impact that our community’s support and strategic investment have on improving student learning outcomes.

Planning Ahead for 2026

School Council has carefully reviewed the plans and finances for the 2026 school year. In doing so, we have been mindful of balancing the financial pressures that many families face with our shared aspiration to provide the highest quality teaching and learning environment for our students.

After careful consideration, we have made the following decisions:

  • Curriculum Contributions will remain the same as in 2025.
  • Stationery Book Packs can now be modified to meet individual student needs.
  • First Aid Officer payment increases have been kept to a minimum.
  • BYOD program is being discontinued.
  • Payment requests for BYOD families have been reduced.

2026 Payment Schedule

Curriculum Essentials: $340 (F-3) or $280 (4-6)

Curriculum Innovation: $170

First Aid Officer: $80

Family Assistance Fund: $40

In addition to these payments, families are invited to support the school through donations to the Building and Library Trust Funds.

In 2026, donations will help to fund the continued redevelop a number of learning, play and outdoor learning spaces within the school. This includes but will not be limited to:

  • development and expansion of the Sensory (and vegetable) gardens
  • enhancement of the STEM classroom and program materials
  • new irrigation system and restoration of oval space
  • establishment of a school improvement and landscaping masterplan

As per previous years, families will be able to pay before the end of the year or into 2026. Hardcopy payment packs will be sent home to all families within the coming weeks.

SCHOOL REVIEW

Last week we had our three days for our School Review. During these days, the visiting review panel:

  • Observed classes during learning time
  • Spoke with students about their learning
  • Met with teacher focus groups to discuss curriculum
  • Met with a parent focus group
  • Met with education support staff

The review panel were very impressed with the learning that is happening at Milgate PS and the way students are engaged in, and able to talk about, their learning. This is a reflection of all the amazing work of teachers and all staff at the school.

Across the three days, the panel and school leadership team brought together all the information from the fieldwork and the last four years of teaching and learning. From this, we set the goals and targets for the new four-year Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan will be available to our school community in 2026.

A huge thank you to the staff, students and parents involved for their valuable insights and contributions!
