Respect, Responsibility and Resilience are our school’s three guiding values. I have been thinking a lot about resilience recently, how do I teach it, model it and recognise it in the students I teach? Resilience is important for children because it equips them to handle life’s inevitable setbacks, which leads to better emotional, social and mental wellbeing. It helps children recover from disappointment, build confidence and develop skills like problem-solving and emotional regulation, which are crucial for navigating challenges and reducing the risk of long-term issues like anxiety and depression. My research led me to this article which I would like to share with you:
I hope you find it as informative as I did.

Art Show
Our annual Art Show in Week 4 was a great success! We were fortunate to have teacher and artist Ms P share her beautiful artworks and speak about what inspires her artmaking. The show was officially opened by our Art Captain, Ella and Ms P.

All students’ artworks from across the year were proudly displayed, including our special Glow Gallery featuring glow-in-the-dark insect sculptures by the Year 1/2 students and amazing Stop Motion animations created by Years 3–6.
It was wonderful to see such a fantastic turnout of families and students, all taking pride in the creativity and talent on display. A big thank you to all the staff who helped to prepare and display the students’ work—your efforts made the event truly shine!

On Wednesday, 8th October, 8 students represented our school at Divisional Athletics, which took place at Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood. It was a great day and all students who competed on the day, were fantastic ambassadors for our school.
Saarah and Saudah from Year 5 wrote a recount of the day, which is included later in this article. They composed their recount during their own time, at recess and lunch times at school - well done girls. Saarah and Saudah also presented an animated recount of Divisional Athletics at assembly last week. Again they both gave up their own time to complete the recount.
On Friday, 31st October, 18 students from Years 3/4 represented our school at a Cricket Blast Gala day, held at Princess Hwy Reserve. Our school sent one Girl's and one Boys' team to the event. Although it rained on and off all day, our students soldiered on and achieved some great results. Special mention goes out to Betty the champion CRT, who coached the Girls team for the day! Both Nabasta and Phinley took it upon themselves to write a recount of the day, in their own time. Again, well done Nabasta and Phinley. Both their recounts are included later in this article. Again all students who attended the event were superstar representatives for our school.
As we are heading into the summer months it is essential that all students bring a hat and water bottle to PE. Unfortunately any student who does not bring a hat to PE, will not be able to participate! All PE lessons for the remainer of Term 4 will be outside. The only time we will have PE in The Huddle, is if it is raining !

Last Friday, the students who were taking part in Cricket Blast went to Princes Highway Reserve for a cricket tournament. My friends Vira, Kiya, Kila, Nancy, Sanjana, Shikara, Tatiana and I were really excited to be part of the team. The weather wasn’t the best, it was quite cloudy, with a few light showers throughout the day. But that didn’t stop us from looking forward to playing.
Our coach Mrs. Phillips helped us and gave us lots of feedback. We played four matches in total, and to our surprise and delight, we won all four of them! Each game had its own highlights like big hits, sharp catches, and some tight bowling. I think our best game was the last one because we scored over eighty points. There were lots of laughs and cheers after every wicket or boundary.
Our teamwork was strong; we encouraged each other and stayed positive. It felt awesome to represent our school and play so well as a team. By the end of the day, we were tired, but proud to walk off the field knowing we’d had a great day of sport and fun. I’ll definitely remember that day for a long time.

On Friday, the boys and girls from all 3/4 classes came together at Oakleigh East to play four matches of cricket with other schools. The boys' team won 2 out of 4 matches. The first game we played, we lost but we still did our best! There were too many boy players for the second match so some of us sat and watched our team mates. We then had a break and wtched the girls play and they won. In the third match, we won by 222 runs. We then had a break for lunch and went on to play the final match.
In the final match, we made some new friends with the other school. It was a wet day so the bats were slippery. This was the first time I've played cricket outside of the after school club and I really enjoyed participating. It was a longish walk there so our legs were tired. There were approximately 5 other school participating which made it loud and busy. The last match was the hardest. Some of the other players were A-class cricketers and played very well so we had to put in all our effort. Unfortunately we lost, but we gave it our all! We packed our bags and waited for the girls to finish their matches and we then all walked back to school.
