Inquiry

In these weeks, we have continued exploring our topic of Family. Students have been learning about family trees and the different roles of family members, such as parents, grandparents, and siblings. We created beautiful fingerprint family trees using paint and highlighters to represent the special people in our families. We also learned about Aboriginal families and discussed the concept of kinship, which includes the important roles of ‘elders’, ‘aunties’, ‘parents’, and ‘children’. Students enjoyed comparing how different families are connected and how everyone has an important role in caring for one another.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been learning about different sound patterns, including the /tch/ and /dge/ trigraphs, the /eigh/ quadgraph. We also explored how to use present tense verbs ending in –ing when describing ongoing actions and irregular past tense when describing some actions that happened in the past. Students have been practicing identifying these sounds in words, spelling them correctly, and using them in sentences. In writing, we focused on procedural texts, learning how to give clear instructions using order words, verbs, adverbs, and phrases. Students were very creative with their own topics, searched for information online, and completed them with beautiful illustrations to match their steps.

Mathematics

In Maths, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Students explored the differences between flat 2D shapes and solid 3D objects, identifying their sides, edges, and faces. We also went on a fun shape hunt around the playground to spot different shapes in our environment. Students found circles in the basketball hoops, rectangles in the monkey bars, and pentagon on the house roof. These activities helped students recognise that shapes are all around us and deepened their understanding of geometric features in everyday life.
