As part of my final editorial at Plenty Valley Christian College, I want to thank you for allowing me to be part of your community. It has genuinely been a privilege to serve parents, students and staff. I am not the kind of person who loves being the centre of attention, but I have appreciated your kind words and gestures.

This week I have been visiting the different sections of our college, saying goodbye to students from our Kindergarten to the Secondary student leaders. Those moments have reminded me why I became a teacher: because I love students. That passion has never left me, even as my role shifted from the classroom to strategy, governance, and paperwork.

My prayer for PVCC is that it will continue to grow and nurture students who understand that God loves them and has made them unique and for a purpose. This truth has always been at the heart of our mission, and I believe it will remain the foundation for everything we do in the years ahead.

I know that the Lord chose me to lead PVCC for a season, and as my time has come to an end, I am delighted to pass the baton to Mrs Natasha Mackinnon, who I believe is the right person to take our community forward in ways I could not. Please support her in prayer and action as the community and she get to know each other.

As with any transition, we are saying goodbye to some remarkable staff members whose contributions have shaped PVCC, some over decades. Their dedication will not be forgotten. At the same time, we look forward to welcoming new staff who will bring fresh ideas, energy, and passion. Change is never easy, but it is often the doorway to growth.

Staff stepping into a new season:

  • Alison De Haan – Reception/Administration – 22 years at PVCC
  • Lucille Warwick – Secondary Head of Science – 21 years
  • Denise Robinson – Canteen – 18 years
  • Megan Tuttle – Secondary Head of Humanities – 13 years
  • John Metcalfe – Executive Principal – 9 years
  • Dan Symons – Director of Learning and Teaching – 5 years
  • Mark Gabriele – Secondary Italian Teacher – 5 years
  • Vicky McNicoll – Primary Teacher – 1 year

Though I am stepping away from my role at PVCC, I am not stepping away from caring about this community. I will always be cheering you on, proud of what we’ve accomplished together and looking forward to the plans that God has for our “light on the hill” community. The future is bright because of the people who make PVCC what it is - a place where faith and learning flourish.

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 6:4-6

With heartfelt thanks and warmest wishes for the future.

John Metcalfe
