Hands On Heads Literacy Coaching

Dear Principals,
Hoping you are well as we move well past the halfway point of Term 4.
Week 7 here in Victoria, and the weather here in Melbourne has been just as unpredictable as a wet-day timetable!
Reflecting on 2026- THEN, WHERE, HOW- Reflection Tool
The end of year usually calls for reflection. Time to pause and reflect on changes, impact and progress.
Try this as a reflection tool with your teams:
THEN- Where were we back then- 12 months ago? (What did it look like? Where were we? What were we doing?)
WHERE- Where are we now? (What are we doing? What's different? What are we doing NOW that we weren't doing THEN?)
HOW- How did we get there?
(What resources did we use? What tools were needed? And What Else- A.W.E?)
This is what it looked like in action with an empowering secondary middle leadership team I’ve worked with this year →
Multidimensional (literacy) Magic PODCAST- STORIES OF LITERACY SUCCESS Candice and Tanya
Classroom Teachers S English Learning Leads – Bialik College, VIC
In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Candice and Tanya about the multifaceted nature of literacy education at Bialik College. This episode is for any educator striving to bring about changes to literacy practices, while wrestling with the challenge to maintain well-established and effective literacy practices.
Our conversation explored the importance of contextual and relevant teaching and how innovative approaches, like the Sounds-Write program, are shaping both teacher practice and student growth. We spoke about the value of professional development, the critical role of oral language and assessment and the power of collaboration within a supportive school community. Most inspiring was their openness- the way they share successes, challenges and ongoing reflections with such generosity and honesty.
Wise Words from Tanya and Candice:
“Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.” “We are always refining. We are always revising.”
“There are so many stories to what we do.”
