STEM

Week 6

Preps this week continued to explore movement. They undertook a guided investigation on how different sized objects slide.

Grade 1/2s continued to explore forces. With a toy car, they explored the result of how far a toy car went with a small, medium and a larger push, marking the distance with masking tape and discussing the results.

Grade 3/4s had a challenge week task, where they worked in pairs to use provided materials to create a cup holder capable of holding two cups. Students had to firstly sketch their designs on mini whiteboards. Some groups went above and beyond the challenge parameters, making designs that held more than two cups!

Grade 5/6s used clip circuits to create working electrical circuits to then draw a labelled diagram of their completed circuits.

Week 7

Preps continued to explore movement. They broke into small groups and explored how different balls bounce – foam ball, beachball, football, basketball and tennis ball.

Grade 1/2s continued exploring push forces. They explored how the greater the mass of an object, the more force that is required to move it. Students then used the iPads with a partner to explore a game called ‘Fish Force’.

Grade 3/4s continued their unit of work on heat. They learnt about the difference between conductors and insulators and then worked with a partner to sort whether the item may be a conductor or an insulator.

Grade 5/6s continued with the unit of work on electrical circuits. They used MaKey MaKey kits that enabled them to control computer apps with Play-Doh. Lots of fun had by all!

In The Artroom

This week in the Artroom, students completed their unit on Romero Britto. They focused on bright bold colours and smaller contrasting patterns on the base colours.

Photos of artwork will be placed on our school’s facebook page.

Ms Brown has held a watercolour workshop on Wednesday lunchtimes with students creating jellyfish using oil pastels and artist quality watercolours. There is a list on the double glass doors for next Wednesday’s workshop. There are only 12 spots for gr 3-6 so make sure you write your name on the list if you’re interested.

Art club was on Tuesday for grade 1 and 2s.

Artist of the week awards go to:

  • Aaliyah Esperanzate
  • Harper Abrahamson
  • Ella Richardson

Well done to everyone on a great week of creating Britto inspired artwork!
