Junior School Formation

At a recent function, I was asked a question: “How are the young men of today going?” My answer was immediate; they are doing awesome. They are kind, respectful, caring toward those around them, and consistently express gratitude for the opportunities they receive. Walking away from conversations like this fills me with a deep sense of gratitude and pride, reminding me how fortunate we are to work with such remarkable young men. It also prompts reflection on the ways we, as a school, contribute to their overall formation.

This year, The Resilience Project has continued to have a significant focus within the Junior School. We have worked hard to create a shared language among staff and students to embed this program into our daily practice. Through Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Literacy we encourage every boy to appreciate what they have, show kindness, care for their wellbeing, and express their emotions in healthy ways.

As a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice Tradition, our formation extends beyond the classroom. Through Religious Education lessons, retreats, Mass, and service-learning opportunities, we strive to form young men who live out the Gospel values, serving others and treating everyone with respect and dignity.

Character development also happens through experiences such as weekly sports fixtures, music lessons, the Arts, and camps. These activities challenge our boys to demonstrate resilience, perseverance, teamwork, patience, leadership, and the ability to win and lose graciously. These life skills are essential for their growth and future success.

Sharing these reflections at the function filled me with pride, but more importantly, it reminded me of the privilege we have in shaping the lives of these young men. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside them on this journey.

God Bless,

Mr James McPherson

Head of Junior School

Student Achievement

Last Friday night, brothers Xavier and Felix Oshin competed at the Western Australia Athletics Primary School Championships, showcasing incredible skill and determination.

Xavier (Year 4) achieved an outstanding second place in Shot Put, with a throw of 9.92m. It was an exceptionally close contest for first place - well done, Xavier! We’re excited to see what next year brings.

Felix (Year 6) delivered a strong performance in the Long Jump, finishing fifth with an impressive distance of 4.35m. Congratulations, Felix, on your fantastic effort.

The boys in Coding and STEM Club regularly explore 3D printing and often enter design competitions on Makers Empire. This October, Jesse Shinkfield in Year 6 Blue has been selected as the Runner-Up of the Disaster Relief Australia and Makers Empire's 3D Design Competition, which had over 4,000 entries from students across Australia!

The judges were impressed by Jesse's entry in the Disaster Risk Reduction competition, which showed creative thinking to include a two-fold purpose of blowing smoke away while also purifying the air. Disaster relief volunteers would certainly benefit from an invention like this! Jesse’s design is creative and original. The judges particularly liked Jesse's detailed, realistic design and skilful use of the Shaper app.

Congratulations, Jesse, on this fantastic achievement!
