Junior Years Learning Community

Junior Years – Term 4 Weeks 9 & 10
Foundation
During Literacy and Numeracy, we have been revising and assessing knowledge of students understanding of topics covered. It has been so rewarding to see the progression of all students this Semester.
We are excited about our upcoming events in Week 10 such as Orientation Day, Whole School Mass and our Fun Swimming Day. We have been busy rehearsing for our Christmas concert. Please make sure that your child in Wardle, Seccull & Weber is dressed in Christmas colours for the concert.
The students have also enjoyed listening to the story of the Birth of Jesus and retelling it. We have been busy completing Christmas craft and fun activities to finish off the year on a high.
Years One/Two
We have been revising our learning from throughout the year and been completing activities related to Christmas stories we are reading. Students explored writing recounts narratives and letter writing with Christmas themes.
In Numeracy, we have been learning about graphs and making bar graphs about Christmas themed pictures. We have coloured squares different colours on graphs according to the coordinates to create a picture. We also focused on addition and subtraction facts to solve mystery Christmas messages.
In Religion, our topic is “Advent: Preparing for Jesus.” Students have been exploring the Annunciation of Mary and waiting for the birth of Jesus. Students have discussed ways they can be a gift for others just like Jesus was a gift for Mary.
The students have busy preparing for and practising their songs for the Christmas concert. They have been learning the words and actions for their chosen songs, and some classes have extra props they have been making ready for the special performance and celebration.
