KLA Feature - PDHPE

PDHPE in Semester 2 has gone by in a flash, but it has offered many rich and engaging learning experiences for students across multiple year groups.
To enhance their learning in the Aquatics section of the ‘Saving Lives’ unit, Year 7 students attended a Life Saving Day at Ripples Pool, Penrith, on Friday, 28 November. With warm weather on the day, the girls were actively involved in developing their understanding of essential first aid and rescue skills. The girls practised DRSABCD on manikins, completed unweighted rope and non-contact rescues, survival sculling and safe entries into the water. We even squeezed in some fun activities, including retrieving ‘sinkies’ between rotations, which really highlighted the girls’ competitive spirit.
Knowing emergency first aid and rescue skills can empower students to take immediate action and potentially save a life during a crisis.
‘I feel more confident to participate in water activities knowing that I can better help myself and others around me if emergencies occur. ‘ (Aish - 7 Gilmore)
‘The day helped me understand the importance of water safety and equipped me with skills I can use in real life situations.’ (Lucy - 7 Gilmore)
Year 12 Community and Family Studies classes are well underway with their HSC units of work. As part of the first unit, Research Methodology, the three CAFS classes have just completed their class research projects regarding “Examine the impact that dog ownership may have on the wellbeing of individuals in years 9-11 at Caroline Chisholm College”. Next week, the students will complete their first HSC assessment where they will individually analyse the research data and propose recommendations based on their findings.
