A Creative and Inspiring Semester in TAS
Our Year 7 students enjoyed a dynamic and hands-on semester in TAS. In Food and Agriculture, students engaged directly with our School Farm exploring plant growth, sustainable agricultural practices, and transforming fresh produce into delicious food experiences in Food Technology.
At the same time, students expanded their Digital Technology skills through the design of their own Home Smart Home system. They investigated sensors, automated responses and digital solutions to create smart-living innovations that reflected emerging technologies.
Our Year 8 students also worked hard throughout the semester, developing a range of practical design and engineering skills. In Textiles Technology, students designed and created personalised drawstring bags that reflected their own style, learning foundational sewing and decorative techniques. Meanwhile, in the timber workshop, students applied engineering principles to design and produce working cam toys, gaining experience with mechanical systems, movement and precision manufacturing.
Year 9 electives offered students an exciting array of project opportunities. In Food Technology, students participated in a hands-on masterclass delivered by Saoirse Blazevic, owner of boutique cake business Sift’d, where they created their own celebration cakes as part of their Food for Special Occasions unit.
Year 9 iSTEM students immersed themselves in a project-based learning experience exploring a variety of mechanised systems. They extended their knowledge and problem-solving skills through practical investigations of mechatronics, hydraulics and cam mechanisms.
Year 9 Design and Technology students demonstrated creativity, innovation and digital communication skills through a computer-aided design project. They designed, developed and presented a virtual restaurant concept, complete with an app prototype showcasing branding, layout planning and user interface design.
Our Year 9 and 10 Textiles Technology students were also proud to parade the pyjamas and corsets they had been creatively designing and constructing—celebrating their craftsmanship, attention to detail and growing confidence in textile construction skills.
Year 10 Design and Technology and iSTEM students worked to complete their student-negotiated projects, drawing on skills and knowledge from previous units to design and develop real-world solutions. These projects highlighted their maturity in managing the design process and producing meaningful, authentic outcomes.
We were also excited to celebrate new additions to our School Farm, with the introduction of Angora goats. These gentle animals extended students’ learning about fibre farming, offering hands-on insight into the production of mohair and the broader fibre industry.
Alongside these rich classroom experiences, TAS offered a range of extracurricular opportunities that encouraged creativity, teamwork and skill development. Students participated in Ag Club, as well as Thursday cooking and sewing sessions, where they engaged in creative projects including the design and creation of their own t-shirts.
It was a creative, practical and inspiring semester—full of discovery, design thinking and real-world learning across all TAS subject areas.
