Back-Off Seminar
On Thursday 27th November the Year 9 students participated in Brent Sanders’ Back Off Seminar. Brent Sanders is one of Australia’s most respected communicators in the field of harassment, bullying and discrimination. He also presents lectures throughout Australia on sexual crime, criminal profiling and personal safety in senior secondary schools and universities.
The Seminar educated the students in the following areas:
- Gender risk profile to highlight risk factors of sexual crime pertaining to young women in year 9.
- A full discussion around the legal definition of sexual assault including unlawful sexual touching (previously indecent assault.)
- Consent – covering the three pillars of consent law: Age of consent, Permission given freely, The effects of drugs/alcohol on consent and the introduction of Affirmative Consent to the NSW Crimes Act as of 2022.
- Proven and effective strategies to deal with this form of sexual confrontation.
The students felt as though they received some valuable knowledge from the seminar. Further information on what Brent presented about can be found in his Podcast here: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/consent-consequences-with-brent-sanders/id1562242401
Wellbeing Lesson
Our Friday Wellbeing lesson for Week 8 had a focus on getting into the Christmas spirit and homeroom team building. The girls were given the challenge of creating a Christmas window display that represents the true meaning of Christmas. The students had to ensure that each member of the homeroom contributed to the display while also representing a key element of their house.
