Senior School

Welcome to Grade 5, Mrs. Beattie and Mrs. Misra! 🎉

We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to Mrs. Beattie and Mrs. Misra as they join our Grade 5/6 teaching team! Their arrival brings a wave of excitement and anticipation for an enriching semester working with the Grade 5 students. Please feel free to pop your head into their class and say hello :)

100 DAYS (Left) of School

As the Grade 6 students reaches the milestone of exactly 100 days remaining before leaving primary school, they spent Wednesday reflecting  their primary school journey beginning in Prep. They recalled learning to read and write with wide-eyed enthusiasm, forming close friendships in the playground, and experencing a constant sense of discovery and wonder.

Celebrating with our Foundation Students, who were also celebrating their 100 days Journey, The students spent some time together doing some buddy activities, to help the preps and grade 6 students encourage resilience, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning.

With so much behind them and so much ahead, The Grade 6 students have started predicting what life in  secondary school will be like, wondering what new challenges, opportunities, and adventures that await them.

Cooking on the Goldfields

Imagine the scene: dusty tents pitched alongside gold diggings, the air thick with the aroma of boiling tea and freshly cooked damper. This rough, campfire bread—a simple blend of flour, water, and salt, occasionally enriched with butter—provided essential sustenance for the hardworking prospectors during the early, no-frills "damper and mutton stage" of the Gold Rush.

Last Friday, the Grade 5 and 6 Students had an oppertunity to recreate recipies from "The Eurkea Recipie Book and Instrucory Almanac" (From Jackie French's Authors Notes from the book, The night they stormed Eureka)

Beyond the staple damper, another treat that might have graced a digger's camp was Welshcakes.  Sometimes known as bakestones, these small griddle cakes were typically studded with currants or raisins and spiced with cinnamon or nutmeg, then sweetened with sugar and butter. Cooked on a hot griddle or heavy pan, these Victorian-style cakes emerged thin and golden, crisp on the outside and wonderfully soft within, often dusted with caster sugar once off the heat.

A close relative to Welsh cakes, griddle (or girdle) scones were also a common sight. These typically unsweetened scones were cooked on the same hot plate over an open fire, offering another quick and convenient bread option for hungry diggers.
