Term 3
Welcome back! It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the year—where has the time gone? We hope you all enjoyed a safe, happy, and restful break over the holidays. Whether you traveled, relaxed at home, or spent time with loved ones, we hope it was just what you needed.
We’re feeling refreshed and revitalized, and we’re excited to dive straight back into learning. Term 3 promises to be a busy and exciting one, with plenty of wonderful events and opportunities ahead. From engaging classroom projects to whole-school activities, there’s lots to look forward to.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We’re looking forward to another fantastic term of growth, learning, and fun.
Students are continuing their explicit literacy lessons, with grammar, comprehension, storybook and spelling lessons each week. In writing, Grade 2's have written and published their recounts about the school holidays and are beginning their persuasive writing unit. Students are enjoying expressing their personal opinions and thinking and writing about reasons and examples to support their opinions. The Grade 1 and 2 students have been developing their editing skills further, such as looking for spelling and grammar errors and adding details to enrich their narratives and recounts. They have enjoyed peers reading their writing aloud to ensure they have included super sentences that are complete with capital letters and full stops.
Using editing skills from InitialLit, they are employing spelling sound boxes to check and correct tricky words. They are also applying their knowledge of base words and suffixes to correct spelling during the editing phase of their writing. GREAT WORK !
Grade 1 and 2 students have been building their understanding of multiplication through a variety of engaging activities. They've been using mixed materials, skip counting and using equal groups to represent multiplication. The have enjoyed playing multiplication bingo, and lots of hands-on, fun learning experiences along the way.
Grade 1Z have also been developing a strong foundation in understanding time by exploring daily routines and using clocks and calendars to track events. Many have shown great initiative, independently choosing to practise and strengthen their time-telling skills even further. Building on this, they have been learning to tell time to the half hour, quarter past, and in 5- and 10-minute intervals. This progression has deepened their understanding of how time works and how it can be measured with increasing accuracy. The students are thoroughly enjoying this topic and the challenges it presents.
This term our Inquiry unit is "Our Community: Respect, Rights and Responsibilities". Students will be focussing on:
